Academics at Baylor are rigorous and highly personalized, with academics held 鈥渢o a high standard.鈥� Students note that those pursuing a competitive track should 鈥渂e prepared to be tested to the limit.鈥� Despite these high stakes, 鈥渢he professors are there for you and actually care about your academics, and most even about your well-being.鈥� Students also consider Baylor鈥檚 Christian mission to be uplifting: 鈥淢y professors are all passionate people and they do not push faith, but they do involve it in the classroom in an inspirational way.鈥� Baylor鈥檚 courses also include discussion-based learning and hands-on field trips. 鈥淚n my Introduction to Teaching course, we tutored students in a local elementary school. My environmental science class took field trips to the Waco wetlands.鈥� Practical research and volunteer opportunities are particularly useful to those in specialized fields: 鈥淚 am in a laparoscopy lab that enables pre-med students to learn about the research process. There is also a surgical skills class that allows pre-health students to learn skills often used in the world of healthcare.鈥� Liberal arts students enjoy unique projects like the 鈥淯nEssay鈥� that give them 鈥渁 lot of freedom to incorporate things we like into an English class.鈥�

鈥淢y peers at Baylor University are the kindest and most loving group of people I have ever known.鈥� Adds another student, 鈥淲hen I think of 鈥楽outhern hospitality,鈥� the way my peers treat one another comes immediately to mind.鈥� Baylor students also describe each other as goal-oriented, focused, and engaged with religious and social communities. 鈥淓veryone at Baylor is out and about doing things on campus and interacting with the people around them,鈥� says one student. And 鈥渆veryone here at Baylor is aiming for success in their own way.鈥� Further, many students cherish that 鈥渋ntellectual diversity and open mindedness are abundant鈥� among professors and students, and many make note of the variety of identities celebrated on campus: 鈥淭he student body at Baylor is generally Christian, but from a diverse selection of denominations. I also have many nonChristian friends. There is lots of ideological diversity as well, including a thriving LGBTQIA+ community that I myself am a part of.鈥�

Baylor鈥檚 鈥渂eautiful鈥� campus is home to a 鈥渧ery close-knit community where you feel accepted very easily鈥� and offers lots of 鈥渙pportunities to find groups of people to belong to.鈥� One student explains how 鈥渁t the beginning of the fall semester we have this event called 鈥楲ate Night鈥� where all the clubs, including, frats, sororities, and sporting clubs enable you to see all [that is] available on campus.鈥� As a NCAA Division I school, many students list football and basketball games among their favorite activities. As one first-year student describes it: 鈥淓veryone is excited to go to the football and basketball games, and the student section at Baylor is unlike any other.鈥� Baylor鈥檚 鈥渦napologetically Christian鈥� ethos is also celebrated throughout campus life. 鈥淓very Monday night there is Vertical, which is an amazing worship and sermon. When I imagined what a Christian college would look like, Vertical is what I imagined,鈥� explains one student. Popular school-sponsored events abound throughout the academic year, including All University Thanksgiving, Homecoming, Christmas on 5th Street, and Diadeloso. Students also rave about weekly Dr Pepper Hour, the rock-climbing wall in the student center, and gathering at coffee shops around Waco on the weekends. Finally, professional organizations, like those for the pre-med world, not only provide vital career opportunities but keep the school feeling 鈥渕ore like a community than a competition.鈥�

鈥淏aylor guides students towards career success鈥� through its Career Center, which offers students personalized career support, empowering them to pursue meaningful and impactful careers. The center provides a wide range of services, including r茅sum茅 and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, career assessments, and job search strategies, all delivered through one-on-one coaching by Career Success Professionals (CSPs). These career coaches also help students to network, negotiate job offers, and explore different majors. Baylor hosts campus-wide career fairs twice a year, in the fall and spring, as well as numerous employer meetups and networking events throughout the year. The Career Center also offers elective, for-credit career courses where students learn essential skills such as interviewing, networking, and professional etiquette while developing their r茅sum茅s and exploring job and internship opportunities. Career Treks are excursions organized by the Career Center, which provides off-campus visits to top state and national employers, offering students a firsthand look at various industries. In addition, the faculty and alumni at Baylor are also key resources, offering students mentoring and 鈥済reat connections for when it鈥檚 time to find a job in the real world.鈥� As one student says, 鈥淏aylor is preparing us for a career we will be proud of.鈥� According to Payscale.com, the median early-career salary for Baylor graduates is $69,500, with 50 percent deriving a high level of meaning from their jobs.
