Beloit College is a private liberal arts school that provides a global, experiential education and 鈥渃onsistently encourages students to follow their interests both in and out of class in creative ways.鈥� The college鈥檚 flexible curriculum offers students the 鈥渇reedom to study what they are passionate about鈥� and student-designed 鈥渁cademic paths [that] can be customized to suit every student鈥檚 needs, interests, and goals.鈥� These experiences include Impact Beloit, which offers a variety of career-readiness and community-based learning programs, including internships within the town of Beloit. One student says, 鈥淚t has placed me in a local business, working 10鈥�20 hours a week while earning credit and getting paid. I have been able to directly apply what I鈥檝e learned in the classroom and learn so much more.鈥� Students appreciate that their professors are 鈥渄ynamic and knowledgeable鈥� and 鈥渂ring unique perspectives to class material.鈥� The 鈥渟tructure of the classes is very interactive鈥� and 鈥渁 significant amount [of ] classes at Beloit are discussion-based.鈥� Small class sizes create an environment where 鈥渆very student gets to participate and collaborate with one another,鈥� and there is a good deal of 鈥渋ntensive essay writing and an emphasis on self-identity.鈥� The college has 鈥渧ery good resources for helping you with research, internships, and graduate school applications and program decisions鈥� and excels at 鈥渃onnecting us to local professionals and [alumni].鈥� These opportunities give students valuable 鈥渆xperience that鈥檒l separate them from the herd of job applicants,鈥� resulting in 93 percent of students being employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation.

The student body at Beloit is 鈥渁 unique blend of athletes, academics, and people鈥�fitting together on one small campus.鈥� The community is welcoming and open-minded, with students who 鈥渁ren鈥檛 afraid to express themselves and stand out in different ways.鈥� At Beloit, 鈥測ou will find athletes passionate about theater, classicists that translate Star Wars into Latin, and Japanese majors that study queer themes in medieval literature.鈥� For a small school, the student body 鈥渋s extremely diverse, with students from not only all over the country but all over the world,鈥� which leads to 鈥渁 lot of different perspectives coming together.鈥� A common trait among students is that they 鈥渃are a lot about their community鈥� and are 鈥渧ery engaged students and citizens who are passionate about various causes and their academics.鈥� As one student shares, 鈥淎ll in all, I believe Beloit is a great place to find a more unique, open-minded, and interesting group of people.鈥�

At Beloit, 鈥渢here is always something going on.鈥� During the warmer months, 鈥渢here are a lot of spaces on campus to sit outside, play pick-up, and just overall enjoy the outdoors, and the college facilitates a lot of outside activities.鈥� Clubs and organizations 鈥渁re always throwing events and encourage students to try something new,鈥� and 鈥渆veryone is a part of at least one club, and usually several,鈥� with options from theater to powerlifting club. One undergrad observes, 鈥淚 really enjoy the ways athletics, intramurals, and SAAC [Student Athlete Advisory Committee] connect you with other students.鈥� Another great opportunity to bring students together is with traditions like 鈥淪pring Day (a day off of school where we have a carnival, free food, and outdoor games).鈥� A popular spot to hang out with friends, play games, or grab a bite is the Powerhouse, a 120,000-square-foot facility that houses the student union and athletic center. On weekends, 鈥渢here are usually parties or events,鈥� and 鈥渕any people enjoy the cafe on campus and will spend their time studying or having fun with friends there.鈥�

Beloit College 鈥減rovides endless opportunities鈥� and targeted career development resources that can be customized to where a student is on their path to graduation鈥攆rom First Year Initiatives seminars to job shadowing and skills development. There are also a 鈥渧ast amount of internship and community involvement opportunities鈥� with funding to match. Students can choose a Career Channel to help guide them in their specific areas of interest with mentors and alumni through the school鈥檚 Power Grid. In addition, the school has a three-story storefront student business incubator located downtown because Beloit is about 鈥渢aking the idea of a liberal arts education and transferring it into a fun and usable state.鈥� Beloit helps students find their passion and purpose, as evidenced by Beloit alumni visiting PayScale.com, where 61 percent report that they derive a high level of meaning from their jobs.
