Brigham Young University works with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to provide undergraduates with a 鈥渧ery uplifting and spiritual鈥� community. Students truly appreciate the school鈥檚 focus on 鈥渃haracter building鈥� activities and 鈥渓ong-term service. Many undergrads also like that BYU has placed an equal emphasis 鈥渙n being affordable.鈥� Of course, BYU鈥檚 鈥済reatest strength [just might be] the academic rigor of the university. Regardless of your department, you are guaranteed to get a strong education in your field.鈥� Indeed, there are 鈥渕any great nationally regarded programs;鈥� a few 鈥渢hat stand out are the accountancy and animation [departments].鈥� No matter your course of study, 鈥渢he workload at BYU is intense, and that is something one should be prepared for.鈥� Fortunately, professors 鈥渢end to be really encouraging and look to help students do the best they can.鈥� They truly 鈥渆mbody the values of the school and are inclusive and collaborative.鈥� It鈥檚 also evident that most professors here 鈥渉ave a passion for what they teach which makes it easier to learn.鈥� As this satisfied undergrad exclaims, 鈥淏YU only hires the best!鈥� Just as critical, undergrads can rest assured that they鈥檒l leave college ready for the real world. Students attribute this to having 鈥渇antastic internship opportunities鈥� along with 鈥渕any resources for getting hands-on experience鈥� through experiential learning. This involves everything from conducting field research and attending symposiums to studying abroad and completing capstone projects.

Many Brigham Young undergrads recognize that 鈥渢he most obvious thing that鈥檚 unique about BYU is the percentage of the student body that is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.鈥� As this undergrad explains, 鈥淏YU is very faith-based, so many of my peers hold strong religious opinions and motivations.鈥� This helps to establish 鈥渁 common set of core values鈥� among students and fosters 鈥渁 genuinely fun, wholesome, and productive learning and social environment.鈥� Another classmate concurs: 鈥淭he students are kind and outgoing, and they always strive for the highest level of excellence academically and spiritually.鈥� Some students disagree on the extent of the 鈥減redominantly white鈥� community being 鈥渧ery loving and inclusive,鈥� with a few noting a 鈥渟mall but extremely vocal population of hyper-conservatism, and a relatively conservative majority who do not step in to protect the interests of the minorities.鈥� Others assert that 鈥測ou can start a conversation with anyone, anywhere.鈥� As this undergrad concludes, 鈥淢y peers are actually a huge inspiration to me. It鈥檚 evident that everyone is doing their best to be a good person [and a] real contributor to society and it motivates me to try harder every day.鈥�

Brigham Young University has close ties to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and there are consequently many faith-based extracurriculars. For example, 鈥渟tudents attend church services all over campus for two hours each Sunday [and] many...participate in temple worship (a little more sacred than a regular church service).鈥� Those looking for secular activities will find that 鈥渢here are always lots of events and clubs and festive things going on around campus and the great thing is you don鈥檛 have to be a member or anything to join in.鈥� These include everything from folk and ballroom dancing to volunteer service projects and marching band. Sports鈥攊ncluding 鈥渢he pickleball obsession...we all love to play鈥濃�攁re also quite popular. As one undergrad shares, 鈥渢here are tons of intramurals that students join that are fun and competitive.鈥� In addition, there are 鈥渓ots of outdoorsy activities such as hiking, Frisbee, [and] spikeball [along with a large] amount of board games and Harry Potter in the winter months.鈥� Students also like taking a break from campus life periodically. Stroll around downtown Provo and you鈥檙e bound to spot some BYU undergrads attending 鈥渓ocal community events such as farmer鈥檚 markets or holiday activities.鈥�

The online BYU Connect platform is a valuable tool to provide mentorship by connecting students with alumni, faculty, and friends of the university. And 鈥減rofessors are very attuned to career opportunities鈥� at BYU and help students with job connections. 鈥淭he alumni network is amazing,鈥� although 鈥渢here needs to be more help for incoming freshmen to figure out what they want to do.鈥� To get students on a track tailored to their interests, each major has a dedicated career director familiar with the different pathways a student can follow. Career Services also offers Student Development courses that cover topics such as professional etiquette and graduate school admissions prep. Furthermore, 鈥渉ands-on experience, internships, and study abroad are highly encouraged,鈥� which helps students get jump-starts on their post-college careers. PayScale.com reports a median starting salary of $69,600 for BYU graduates, and 61 percent of alumni visiting the site said they derived a high level of meaning from their job.
