Bryn Mawr College, one of the Seven Sisters, is 鈥渁 prestigious鈥� institution 鈥渨here you will work harder than you thought was possible, you鈥檒l learn more than you鈥檝e ever learned before, and you鈥檒l feel鈥�welcomed every step of the way.鈥� Mawrters are part of a 鈥渧ery inclusive and鈥�empowering鈥� sisterhood, one that鈥檚 鈥渃ollaborative rather than competitive.鈥� Although the college is 鈥渁cademically rigorous,鈥� it provides 鈥渢he support [students] need to meet these high standards.鈥� This includes access to the Tri-Co and Quaker Consortium, through which students can take classes at schools like Haverford and UPenn. It also means that Bryn Mawr itself is able to keep its class sizes small, and when 鈥渁 majority of [your] classes are 20 people or less鈥�you really get to know your peers and your professors/advisors.鈥� That鈥檚 even more of a positive, given that most teachers are described as 鈥渆nthusiastic, knowledgeable鈥�and very invested in their students鈥� learning.鈥� Another student agrees, noting, 鈥淓very professor I鈥檝e had has been more than willing to help me when I need help understanding something or need an accommodation on an assignment.鈥� They also 鈥渆ncourage you to share your opinion in class and contribute to the content of the discussion.鈥� That鈥檚 a rewarding experience that helps students graduate ahead of the game: 鈥淚 have very much benefited from this level of rigor.鈥�

Bryn Mawr attracts 鈥渂rilliantly smart鈥�and intensely academic鈥� students who are deeply curious about the world around them. Indeed, 鈥渘ot a day goes by that I don鈥檛 overhear a conversation about current events, politics, or other scholarly topics in the dining hall.鈥� Fortunately, there are 鈥渘ot many people here who have an 鈥業 am smarter than you鈥� attitude.鈥� In fact, students report that their classmates are 鈥渆xtraordinarily friendly and welcoming, especially to first-years.鈥� One undergrad says, 鈥淲hether you鈥檙e dressed from an L.L. Bean catalog or you prefer cosplay in daily life, everyone is welcome and celebrated and part of this place.鈥� Many Mawrters also appreciate the diversity among their peers, particularly regarding gender identity, noting that you鈥檒l find 鈥渕any queer and gender non-conforming students.鈥� Additionally, a number of students identify as 鈥渟taunch feminists鈥� and 鈥渁re very into social justice.鈥� As this undergrad explains, 鈥淧eople care deeply about issues and strive toward making the world a better place.鈥� Ultimately, Mawrters are a close-knit community where 鈥渆ach student strives to be their very best while making sure every person around them also succeeds.鈥�

Bryn Mawr students are a diligent lot. Therefore, it鈥檚 common for undergrads here to 鈥渟pend a lot of time studying and working either at on-campus or off-campus jobs.鈥� Despite their busy schedules, they still manage to find time for extracurriculars, and the wide range of them, 鈥渇rom equestrian to knitting to anime,鈥� means there鈥檚 truly something for everyone. For instance, 鈥渁 cappella groups are very big on campus [and] a lot of students are involved with student government.鈥� Additionally, 鈥渢he student activities office plans a lot of events,鈥� such as movie screenings, tie-dye parties, concerts, pumpkin decorating, and more. Even the school president gets in on the action by hosting 鈥溾�楶residential PopUps鈥� where they will bring in, say, an ice cream truck, and everyone gets free ice cream.鈥� Students say that 鈥減artying does happen, but you have to seek it out,鈥� as it鈥檚 generally not on campus. As a result, when the weekend rolls around, students often head to 鈥淧hiladelphia for dinner and nightlife since it is so close鈥� and note that 鈥渢he surrounding towns have fabulous restaurants as well, so good dining options are never in short supply.鈥� In short, the vibe is that 鈥渆veryone ends up involving themselves in multiple clubs or projects. It鈥檚 hectic sometimes but fun.鈥�

Bryn Mawr鈥檚 Career and Civic Engagement Center (CCEC) prepares liberal arts and sciences students to become effective leaders by emphasizing experiential education and alumnae involvement. Fieldwork experience (for academic credit) can be arranged through the center鈥檚 Praxis learning programs, which integrate academic theory with relevant, active placements. Undergrads can also work with the center to schedule one-on-one appointments at any time and receive assistance in crafting their personal job strategy, creating and tweaking their r茅sum茅s, and learning the secrets to successful networking. CCEC is also responsible for recruiting and orchestrating interviews and events where undergrads can meet with prospective employers interested in hiring Bryn Mawr students for internships, entry-level positions, and gap-year fellowships. Funding is available for summer internships, research opportunities, and study abroad, while Mini-Grants are available throughout the school year to support student or organization interests, such as conferences, guest speakers, or test prep.
