Centrally located in the heart of Indianapolis, Butler University combines city living with a personalized academic experience. Offering 鈥渁 large mix of majors and minors,鈥� the university does a 鈥済reat job at providing connections and opportunities from undergraduate research...to outstanding internships.鈥� Butler鈥檚 academic excellence can also be seen in programs like Dance, Pharmacy, and Business that are 鈥渆xtremely well done and nationally known.鈥� Across departments, many enrollees agree that the school 鈥済oes above and beyond to promote an outstanding environment of learning and growing for its students.鈥� Undergrads tout the benefits of small classes and a low student-to-faculty ratio, which 鈥渃reate[s] the perfect atmosphere to get one-on-one time with professors鈥� and 鈥渄evelop a greater understanding of the material.鈥� The hands-on educational experience is made more valuable by the 鈥渉igh quality of academic faculty,鈥� especially those who 鈥渁re passionate and have a genuine interest in students鈥� learning.鈥� As one enrollee notes, 鈥淧rofessors at Butler care about who you are as a person, not just [as] a student.鈥� The 鈥渁ttentive and engaging鈥� faculty 鈥渕ake learning fun鈥� while also being ever-ready to 鈥渉elp a student out and give them support both academically and personally. Butler鈥檚 student population continues to emit Hoosier Hospitality. If any student is ever in need of help, they always have someone to go to. The majority of students agree, describing the university as a 鈥渧ery tight knit community,鈥� with one person expressing, 鈥淏utler students are very friendly,鈥� and 鈥淸it鈥檚] easier to find a kind student at Butler than an unkind one.鈥� In terms of diversity, while some find the student body to be 鈥渙verwhelming majority white,鈥� others feel that 鈥淏utler is making an effort to [create] an inclusive and diverse environment.鈥� As one student puts it, 鈥淎lthough there are many different political beliefs and divides, my peers all come together to celebrate our school and our community.鈥� At Butler, 鈥渆veryone does a great job of making sure people fit in.鈥� That鈥檚 in large part due to what respondents describe as 鈥淗oosier Hospitality,鈥� in that 鈥渋f any student is ever in need of help, they always have someone to go to.鈥�

Many students, affectionately known as Bulldogs, consider Butler鈥檚 300-acre campus to be 鈥渧ery beautiful, which makes it enjoyable to be outside when the weather is nice.鈥� A variety of extracurricular options, including 鈥渉undreds of clubs as well as Greek life [helps] keep the whole campus united.鈥� In fact, Greek life tops the charts as a 鈥渇un way to meet new people and get one鈥檚 mind off school.鈥� Bulldogs also 鈥渆njoy participating in intramural sports鈥� and mention that 鈥渋t鈥檚 a huge part of Butler culture to attend basketball games.鈥� In addition to all of the campus activities, undergrads are all involved with the local community via the university鈥檚 unique 鈥溾�業ndianapolis Community Requirement鈥� that has students take one class connecting them with the Indianapolis area and often centers around community service.鈥� One undergrad sums it up nicely, saying, 鈥渆veryone is involved in something,鈥� At Butler, you get the best of both worlds with 鈥済reat access to a big city while still being far away enough to not be fully encompassed by [it].鈥� Students agree that 鈥淚ndianapolis itself is very cool to explore,鈥� and specifically note enjoying the nice restaurants and gardens, as well as 鈥済oing to Broad Ripple (a small trendy area of town).鈥� Additionally, 鈥渄owntown Indy and the river walk are also very common spots on the weekends for students to go and hangout at or visit.鈥� As one student puts it, 鈥渂eing so close to Indy gives you a lot of opportunities for fun.鈥�
