The Catholic University of America offers 鈥渟trong academics,鈥� with one student saying, 鈥淚 have been able to balance my workload even though it is intense.鈥� Many students appreciate The First-Year Experience Learning Communities, which pair small groups of students with a team of teachers to complete a core, four-course sequence in philosophy, theology, and English; these communities 鈥渁re a great way to expose students to subjects that [they] wouldn鈥檛 usually take, while developing friendships.鈥� Study abroad is also popular, with many students spending a semester at the Rome campus, where 鈥渇or my liberal arts curriculum requirements, we were able to go out into Rome weekly and use real-life examples for our courses.鈥� Depending on the class, teaching methods range from lectures to more hands-on approaches like 鈥渟imulation-based learning, where students use realistic scenarios (such as clinical simulations, case studies, or role-playing exercises) to apply concepts.鈥� Professors are 鈥渧ery approachable and open to discussing any remaining questions on the content or taking a deeper dive into applications of content,鈥� and many actively 鈥渃heck in with their students to make sure the class is running smoothly.鈥� This engagement reinforces the sense that professors 鈥渁re there because they desire to be,鈥� which in turn 鈥渋mparts [a] lively and energetic atmosphere that encourages students to ask questions, make connections, and take their work seriously.鈥� As one student summarizes, 鈥淭he greatest strengths of The Catholic University of America are its integration of faith and academics, its strong sense of community, and its location in Washington, DC.鈥�

This is 鈥渁 diverse and content group of people鈥� who 鈥渁re genuinely interested in their fields of study and have clear aspirations for the future.鈥� While most students are Catholic, 鈥渢he degree to which they practice their faith varies.鈥� This 鈥渒ind and open鈥� group 鈥渨elcomes you with open arms. Everyone finds their people.鈥� Students are often described as 鈥渇unny, caring, and hardworking, and they embrace being themselves.鈥� The school鈥檚 size allows for 鈥渁 tight-knit community feel without it being a repeat of high school, [with] plenty of new people and groups to meet through[out] all four years.鈥� Cardinals 鈥渁re willing to help others out when needed,鈥� and there is a 鈥渟trong sense of morality and social justice鈥� here. Many students are 鈥渁cademically driven in and out of the classroom,鈥� with some 鈥渟pending most of their time researching and debating academic topics for fun.鈥� At the same time, students 鈥渕anage to balance education with socialization, and still have time to be introspective and learn about their own beliefs and grow as a person.鈥�

The campus 鈥渋s absolutely stunning and is well-taken care of,鈥� remaining 鈥渃lean while still maintaining a 鈥榣ived-in鈥� feel.鈥� Students highlight 鈥渢he amount of green space the campus has,鈥� and many can be found 鈥渟itting outside on warm days, playing volleyball, throwing a football around, and [doing] other fun stuff.鈥� The library 鈥渉as an amazing supply of areas to study,鈥� and students also 鈥渆njoy hanging out with friends in the student center.鈥� Its location, along with convenient access to a nearby metro stop, is another major advantage, allowing students to explore downtown 鈥渢o see the museums, attractions, restaurants, and try to immerse themselves in the DC culture.鈥� There are 鈥渁 lot of extracurriculars that are a great source of close friends,鈥� including campus ministry, Knights of Columbus, and the Cardinal Service Corps, which serves DC-area food kitchens and shelters. A large portion of the campus community 鈥渁ttends Daily Mass at some point throughout the day,鈥� reflecting how 鈥淐atholic offers a lot of opportunities for students to connect with others.鈥� As one student puts it, 鈥淧eers truly bond within clubs, classes, and organizations.鈥�
