Centre College is a school that prides itself on fostering a 鈥渢ight knit community,鈥� one in which 鈥渆veryone genuinely cares.鈥� Undergrads appreciate the college鈥檚 liberal arts education, which provides them with 鈥渟ubstantial freedom to pursue whatever academic experience and career they wish.鈥� Additionally, 鈥渟mall class sizes鈥� are the norm at Centre, leading to a very personalized classroom experience and education. 鈥淚n every class I鈥檝e ever taken in my four years, the professor has known my name and made an effort to get to know everyone.鈥� Of course, individualized attention also means that 鈥測ou must work hard and you must be ready to learn!鈥� A fellow classmate cautions that at Centre, 鈥淵ou cannot get by with not trying.鈥� But don鈥檛 worry. The Centre faculty consists of 鈥渆xtremely knowledgeable鈥� individuals who maintain 鈥渁 vested interest in [their students鈥橾 success鈥� and are there to support you on your academic journey. As this undergrad sums up, 鈥淓ven professors that I鈥檝e had in the past always have their door open, so to speak, to get questions answered or simply talk.鈥� Ultimately, students leave these courses well-equipped, quickly stressing that the 鈥渁cademic rigor is great preparation for graduate school and fellowships鈥� along with 鈥渢he real world.鈥� As one individual emphasizes, 鈥淚 know that I鈥檒l have connections for internships and jobs for the remainder of my time here and after I graduate.鈥�

Centre College does a great job amassing a group of undergraduates who are 鈥渉ard working, high achieving, and very involved on and off campus.鈥� Students here 鈥渁re always happy to help in any way they can.鈥� And while they are undoubtedly 鈥渁cademically motivated,鈥� Centre students definitely 鈥渒now how to have fun鈥� as well. Most people 鈥減rioritize studying during the week and social life during the weekends, though the two are often combined.鈥� In terms of diversity, undergrads recognize that the 鈥渟tudent body is predominantly white.鈥� However, they rush to note that 鈥淐entre [is] certainly striv[ing] for a more diverse make up.鈥� And many also point out that you鈥檒l definitely meet 鈥減eople from all over the country and the world鈥� here. What鈥檚 more, students report that their peers are 鈥渇ocus[ed] on [ensuring]...inclusion everywhere on campus in terms of sports, Greek life, academics, and extracurriculars.鈥� This undergrad agrees, adding, 鈥淥ur community is very welcoming and warm to all student[s] whether you [are] international, American, Republican, Democrat, there is something and someone for everyone.鈥�

Given Centre鈥檚 rigorous academics, a lot of 鈥渟tudents鈥� time is spent studying.鈥� But fear not, the college still manages to generate plenty of opportunities for fun. For starters, Greek life is quite popular. Indeed, Centre maintains a 鈥渉ealthy culture of fraternities and sororities,鈥� which many students engage in. Additionally, there are numerous career-focused organizations like the investment society that enables students to 鈥渕anage over $200,000 in stocks [as well as] look for opportunities to grow [their] portfolio and teach others about investing.鈥� There are also more traditional clubs such as the college orchestra, garden club, intramural sports, and the Centre Environmental Association. Plus, 鈥渆very weekend the campus center puts on an event from laser tag to mechanical bull riding.鈥� Students also simply 鈥渆njoy hanging out and watching shows or movies with friends鈥� or 鈥渟ocializ[ing] during their meals.鈥� It is important to acknowledge hometown Danville is 鈥渁 very small town.鈥� Because many feel 鈥渢here鈥檚 not much to do for fun鈥� in the small town, most are content taking advantage of all of the built-in fun offered from their college.

The Center for Career & Professional Development at Centre promises students that its staff 鈥渁re here to help you apply for internships, jobs and graduate school, as well as explore your career options and interests.鈥� From the career center鈥檚 website, students can watch tutorial videos from CareerSpots.com, which provides 鈥渁 series of short videos on career related topics such as networking, interviewing, job fairs, etiquette, and more.鈥� One Computer Science major raved that Centre 鈥済uarantees an internship鈥� or research experience, and other students praise the professors鈥� helpfulness in tracking down and applying for internships. After graduating, a Biology major noted that the 鈥渁lumni network is HUGE, and really helpful once you leave Centre.鈥� Popular majors for Centre students include economics and finance, philosophy, and history with popular post-Centre fields like financial services, education, and health/medicine.
