Every student receives a customized education at Chapman University, a private institution known for its personalized approach to both academic and creative development. The university is home to eleven distinct colleges of study, allowing students to forge individualized, interdisciplinary paths鈥攁nd, as students note, 鈥渆ach college excels at their own craft.鈥� Those who choose thoughtfully quickly recognize 鈥渢he effort the school puts in to getting us involved and making sure we are having a good time,鈥� with many curricula emphasizing 鈥渁 more active learning approach: group discussions, help from upperclassmen, and student-led presentations.鈥� Undergraduates appreciate that they 鈥渉ave choices on how we want to be creative on an assignment,鈥� an approach reinforced by 鈥渋nteractive and proactive lessons that thrive off of community input.鈥� Teaching methods often extend beyond the traditional classroom; one economics course, for example, asked students to hypothetically bid on 鈥渂ags of Takis at varying prices to show how monopolies choose the sell prices they use.鈥� Professors 鈥渉ave a good concept of a comfortable workload for students, [and] most homework is purposeful and supports the exam content,鈥� contributing to a balanced academic environment. Furthermore, teachers 鈥減rovide constant support and also recommend job/professional opportunities,鈥� and a student says that 鈥渨ith numerous opportunities nearby (such as in Hollywood and other businesses) my peers can take their passion to the professional level.鈥� At Chapman, support is readily available, and students consistently find 鈥渁n open door, whether that is personally, academically, or culturally.鈥�

Chapman is home to a diverse mix of backgrounds and personalities, united by 鈥渓ots of appreciation for the arts鈥濃�攁n ideal environment where 鈥渆veryone seems like they have a story to tell.鈥� One student describes the impact of having such 鈥渋ncredibly welcoming and social鈥� peers: 鈥淚鈥檒l lose an hour trying to walk from my class to my car.鈥� Rather than a drawback, this sense of connection is embraced, as 鈥渂eing busy is a great benefit of college.鈥� The campus culture is described as 鈥渃ollaborative over competitive, as well as friendly and welcoming,鈥� where 鈥渆veryone is excited to share their knowledge to help others.鈥� With 鈥渃ountless clubs and organizations,鈥� there are 鈥渙pportunities to get involved in [the] social scene at every corner,鈥� and students note that 鈥減eople support each other鈥檚 passions, collaborate across disciplines, and genuinely celebrate unconventional thinking.鈥� One student captures the spirit of the university, saying, 鈥淐hapman feels driven, close-knit, and welcoming. Chapman maintains a 鈥渧ery beautiful campus,鈥� reinforcing the feeling that 鈥渨herever you are is a wonderful place to be.鈥� The university offers 鈥渆xcellent social opportunities and campus life鈥� in a sunny Southern California setting just fifteen miles from the beach and five miles from Disneyland. A majority of students live on campus during their first year, and 鈥渢here are constantly events going on that help to bring the students together, whether it鈥檚 orientation week with games and information sessions,鈥� or 鈥渃ampus events [with] free food in the piazza.鈥� Students emphasize that 鈥渋f you want networking opportunities, they鈥檙e there and very accessible.鈥� For example, the popular Dodge College of Film and Media Arts hosts regular Master Classes, 鈥渨here they bring in actors, singers, directors, writers, etc. to come and speak to students as well as screen movies.鈥� The 鈥渟mall class sizes and small campus鈥� make it easy 鈥渢o build connections with peers,鈥� and many students 鈥渓ove to walk down the street to the Circle, where there are a bunch of cute local shops and restaurants.鈥� No matter the activity, students highlight the inclusive atmosphere: 鈥淧eople are always getting invited to things and trying to make sure you feel connected to the school.鈥�
