One of the City University of New York鈥檚 senior colleges, Baruch College鈥檚 schools (Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, and the Zicklin School of Business, which is the largest of the three) are located in Manhattan and take full advantage of being in 鈥渢he greatest city of the world鈥�: students here have access to 鈥渋nternships, big companies, and...Wall Street.鈥� Low in-state (as well as reasonable out-of-state) tuition means that many here 鈥済o to school while already working in interesting and impressive positions,鈥� and have come to Baruch purely 鈥渢o improve themselves,鈥� which increases the level of maturity in the classroom. There is a wide variety of courses (鈥渆specially [for] those interested in business鈥�), and the school offers ad-hoc majors, which allows students to design programs that will support their career goals. Though this is not a research university, there are a 鈥渧ast amount of resources鈥� that are available to the students here. The education system is 鈥渨ell organized and up to date with the current world,鈥� and Baruch is tied with many companies in New York, which 鈥渃reates even more opportunities for internships as well as job opportunities.鈥� 鈥淪ome of my business professors came from leading huge corporations, and their anecdotes about their prior work help students internalize the material,鈥� says one student. There is 鈥渁n impressive number of career-developing programs on campus that are free of charge and readily available to all students,鈥� and 鈥渋t is clear that the professors at Baruch have first-hand experience in the material they are teaching to students.鈥�

Students come from all over the world and Baruch is 鈥渇ull of bright and ambitious minds鈥�; being a student here 鈥渕eans you learn to interact with peers from all over the world.鈥� 鈥淢y fellow peers have a good sense of where they want to steer their careers and exactly what they want to do after college,鈥� says one student. Baruch is 鈥渇ull of first-generation college graduates,鈥� and the school is a real microcosm of NYC: 鈥渢he hustle and bustle, crowds, everyone has somewhere to go, and everyone has a dream they hope will one day be fulfilled.鈥� This is a very unique commuter school in that 鈥渋t has such an involved student body鈥� where 鈥渢here is a sense of community through clubs and extracurriculars.鈥�

As a commuter school, most students go to classes and go home, but 鈥渢here are great clubs and events always happening鈥� for those that do hang around, and the 鈥渓ounges are usually packed.鈥� 鈥淚t is all about how much time and effort you put into finding things to do,鈥� says a student. Most students are working part-time or full-time while taking courses here, but find plenty to do in between classes, from 鈥渉anging out in the club area with the clubs, playing in the game room, working out in the gym, or taking classes in our trading floor.鈥� There is so much student activity around Baruch that it is often hard to contain, and 鈥渢here is always something going on and always free food around campus.鈥� Though most do not get the typical on-campus college experience, all agree that 鈥渇or the price and the benefits associated with the school, the trade-off is worth it.鈥� This is New York City, which means 鈥測ou can practically do ANYTHING with your day.鈥� Museums are free for students, and 鈥渙f course the shopping and food are amazing.鈥� The school鈥檚 Newman Vertical Campus on Lexington Ave is a hive of activity, and though elevator crowding is a problem, when a student鈥檚 eyes look at the breathtaking view of the building, 鈥淚t makes you feel proud to be a Baruchi!鈥�

Students at Baruch have access to some 鈥渋mpressive鈥� career resources. To begin with, undergrads can easily tap into 鈥渁 strong alumni network.鈥� Baruch鈥檚 Starr Career Development Center routinely invites 鈥渢op companies [to campus] to network with students and talk about their jobs.鈥� The Center 鈥減rovides services to help students prepare for these events,鈥� which can cover everything from LinkedIn 101鈥攆or students to learn how to leverage the site and make their profile stand out鈥攖o mastering a job interview. Additionally, the Starr Career Development Center offers some unique programs like the dining etiquette workshop, which allows students to prep for networking events that involve food. Of course, most importantly, Baruch hosts some amazing career fairs that put students in direct contact with top firms like Bank of America, Citi, Target, and Goldman Sachs.
