The crown jewel of the CUNY system, Hunter College is an institution teeming with 鈥渞esources鈥� and 鈥渆ndless...opportunities.鈥� Of course, many students are drawn to Hunter for its 鈥渧ery affordable鈥� price tag and 鈥減rime location.鈥� Undergrads also love just how many 鈥済reat鈥� academic programs the college truly offers, including 鈥渘ursing,鈥� 鈥減sychology,鈥� 鈥減olitical science,鈥� and 鈥渆ducation.鈥� No matter what you want to study, you can rest assured Hunter will deliver. Students also benefit from the amazing 鈥渟upport systems鈥� that Hunter maintains. Indeed, they can rely on the fact that numerous 鈥渁dvisors are always there to answer questions about careers, classes to take, and graduation needs.鈥� This care and concern can be found within the classroom as well. After all, Hunter professors tend to be 鈥減assionate about what they teach and prefer for students to be active in class.鈥� Moreover, 鈥渢hey are extremely willing to help outside the classroom鈥� as well. And many undergrads simply find their instructors 鈥渧ery nice and knowledgeable.鈥� Finally, as this thrilled student boasts, 鈥淭hey keep challenging me to do better with my work and to never stop working at the idea that is in my head to make it a reality. They genuinely believe that the students at Hunter are above others, which gives me a confidence that I chose the right school.鈥�

Primarily a 鈥渃ommuter鈥� school, Hunter鈥檚 student body is dominated by New York City 鈥渓ocals who are trying to get their education in a cost-efficient manner.鈥� Fortunately, they are also an extremely 鈥渄iverse鈥� lot. You can find undergrads of 鈥渆very culture, religion, race, etc.鈥� And since 鈥渆veryone comes from different walks of life,鈥� you will 鈥渘ever feel like an outcast.鈥� Indeed, Hunter students are extraordinarily 鈥渁ccepting.鈥� Some individuals lament, however, that their peers do tend to 鈥渒eep to themselves.鈥� Others argue that if you take the time to talk to people, you quickly discover that most students are 鈥渇riendly鈥� and 鈥渨elcoming.鈥� They can also be 鈥渧ery supportive and caring.鈥� As one undergrad explains, 鈥淲e make sure that we help each other out in our studies and teach each other when there is something we do not understand.鈥� Additionally, the vast majority of Hunter students are 鈥渄riven to succeed.鈥� They are often 鈥渇ound vigorously studying for their classes and forming networks with people that have similar interests as them.鈥� It鈥檚 quite evident that everyone here really 鈥渨ants to achieve something in life.鈥� And, as this wise undergrad succinctly states, 鈥淏eing around people with that general same motivation is really good.鈥�

Hunter College doesn鈥檛 have a sprawling or self-contained campus. And, given that many undergrads here commute, it鈥檚 quite common for people to pop in 鈥渏ust for classes and are running back to the train when classes are over.鈥� Of course, 鈥渋f there鈥檚 a break, people often join up with friends to eat, or study together in the library, by the halls, or the digital cafes.鈥� And, when time allows, 鈥減eople often go to the gyms and workout downstairs.鈥� A large percentage of undergrads here hold 鈥減art-time jobs that offer flexible hours鈥� as well. A decent number also carve out time to 鈥渧olunteer.鈥� Additionally, the college itself 鈥渉osts many, many programs and activities all throughout the week.鈥� When the weather is nice, many students like to head to 鈥渘earby Central Park鈥� to hang out and/or study. Students frequently 鈥渆xplore the city because there is always stuff to do in New York.鈥� For example, 鈥渢here are tons of museums in the area that are free for Hunter students.鈥� And undergrads who are of age seem to love checking out the 鈥渂ars and clubs鈥� the city has to offer.

Hunter College students are privy to 鈥渕any career and internship opportunities.鈥� This is largely thanks to the Career Development Services office, which has 鈥渟taff who really help guide you through the [career search] process.鈥� These services ensure students receive advice on everything from drafting r茅sum茅s and cover letters to putting together a career development plan. The school uses Focus 2 career assessment software to help students ascertain the best academic and career plan early in their education. CDS also does a stellar job with on-campus recruitment, hosting multiple career fairs during the year that attract a strong pool of potential employers, as well as career panels, networking events, and workshops dedicated to job search preparation and skill-building. Payscale.com says that Hunter alumni have a median starting salary of $62,500, and 53% of students report finding a high level of meaning in their job.
