01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Colorado State University is a Tier 1 public research university that is "devoted to teaching the next generation of minds...[so] that we all go out into the world ready to leave a lasting impact." CSU is "continually moving forward and pushing the bounds of what is expected of college students." With more than 70 undergraduate degree programs and 5,000 students participating in research annually, CSU provides students "the resources to succeed in academics, pursue hobbies and interests, and maintain good mental and physical health." In this "diverse and inclusive learning environment for students, staff, and community members," students say that "there are lots of people to go to for support, both emotionally and academically. Advisors actually care...and the institution will reach out to you in a time of need." One student describes their alma mater as "determined to engage and challenge its students, preparing them for post-graduate life beyond the university." Professors are "all well-versed in their fields with industry experience, research, and a general passion for their field" and "offer ample opportunities for students to receive help and get to know them on a personal level." They "bring the material to life and maintain a comfortable environment for discussion and lecture" and "make sure...that everything remains fair to make it the best learning environment possible." It's not uncommon to hear students say: "My professors are fantastic; they make everything easy to learn and teach in ways that make classes enjoyable, even with large lectures. My academic experience has been nothing but great."

06. Student Body

What students say:

Rams descend on Fort Collins from around the world, and there are "all ages and many ethnicities and nationalities" found on campus. The breadth of the school's offerings also makes it special: "There are so many majors and so many different individuals, it makes for a very unique campus," says a student. Students "often look out for each other when there is an issue," and "everyone wants to take care of one another." Amid this "friendly and helpful atmosphere focused on balance in life," people are "spirited and everyone is proud to be part of the Ram Family." Everyone "seems to have an equal respect for the environment" on this "very positive, comfortable, and encouraging" campus, and many say that "a main focus is environmental awareness and restoration." One student says it's "always interesting speaking to people on campus as everyone seems to have a unique story or outlook upon the world."

08. Campus Life

What students say:

"People are very active" on this "absolutely beautiful campus," where "the rec center is never empty,...the intramural fields always have some people playing on them, [and] people like to bike around." As the seasons change, "tons of people go hiking and spend time at local state/national parks," and in the winter, most students "head to the mountains for skiing/snowboarding." In addition, students "can always find a ride to festivals or competitions happening throughout northern Colorado." CSU "offers a plethora of communities for anyone and everyone to be involved in," so much so that "there are clubs for everything, [and] if you can't find a club that interests you...you can make one." Many people "go into downtown Fort Collins for fun," which they find to be "a great city with a good nightlife" where there "is always a buzz around the square, and oftentimes a local band will be playing." Additionally, it is "only an hour from Denver, Colorado, so many students enjoy spending a weekend in the city and discovering new things in that area." Even closer to home, students appreciate the range between recreational activities on this "very outdoorsy campus" and a nearby "escape to the mountains."
