DePauw University has done an incredible job of building a 鈥渃ollaborative community鈥� that prioritizes the needs and desires of its undergraduates. Whether it鈥檚 cultivating a 鈥渢ruly caring faculty,鈥� being wholly 鈥渞eceptive to student feedback鈥� or developing 鈥渆xcellent study abroad options,鈥� students here are set up to thrive. Importantly, DePauw 鈥渆mphasizes [a] well-rounded education鈥� as undergrads are expected to 鈥渢ake classes in nearly all departments over their four years.鈥� Inevitably, this allows them to develop 鈥渂oth [a] depth and breadth of knowledge鈥� and also helps ensure that there are 鈥減rograms and courses for every student.鈥� Another great benefit of a DePauw education? The 鈥渃lasses are small so students are able to really engage in discussion.鈥� But perhaps the true highlight of studying here are the professors who tend to be 鈥渒nowledgeable, interesting, empathetic and invested.鈥� As this undergrad explains, 鈥淢y professors do a great job at making sure we don鈥檛 grow tired of our material. They always switch things up to make sure we are learning and growing as individuals.鈥� They鈥檙e also 鈥渆ager to tell students about internships or job opportunities, and love connecting students with alumni.鈥� As another grateful undergrad simply concludes, 鈥淭he professors at DePauw University are some of the most phenomenal people I have ever met.鈥�

At DePauw, you鈥檒l find 鈥渟tudents from all over the world鈥� and, accordingly, 鈥渙pen-minded individuals who are eager to learn about the world around them.鈥� At a glance, some students observe a 鈥渃ore group [of] Midwestern white students鈥� and that there are 鈥渨ell-off鈥� local attendees, but note that diversity can be found throughout this group, and the school 鈥渋n lots of ways鈥攊n terms of ethnicity, sexuality, sexual orientation/identity, thoughts, political viewpoints, country of origin/nationality, etc.鈥� As one student puts it, 鈥淢y peers are often unafraid to stand up for what they believe to be right, and actively work to better the DePauw community.鈥� Ultimately, when it comes down to it, 鈥淭he university has a very social student base that acts as a very tight-knit community.鈥�

Undergrads at DePauw are 鈥渧ery committed to their academics鈥� and it鈥檚 common for people to 鈥渟pend much of the week studying.鈥� Nevertheless, there鈥檚 plenty to enjoy when they want to take a break from their books. To begin with, DePauw maintains a fairly robust fraternity and sorority system. 鈥淢any students join Greek life at some point and are involved in [their] philanthropy, academic and social activities including partying. Even those not in the Greek system are likely to attend the Greek parties.鈥� Additionally, athletics are 鈥渧ery popular鈥� as well and you鈥檒l often see 鈥渟tudents [at] football games... during the fall semester, especially when they play our rival team during the Monon Bell game.鈥� Of course, the university itself also 鈥渉osts many fun events to bring students together, such as food truck Fridays.鈥� And there are numerous organizations and clubs to join ranging from the student newspaper and TV station to the future medical professionals club and sustainability leadership program. When wanting to get off outside for a bit, 鈥渕any students go to the Nature Park (a DePauw owned nature preserve). It is very popular in the spring and fall and many students enjoy hiking, reading, or working on homework [there].鈥� And if you鈥檙e venturing off campus, undergrads note that 鈥淕reencastle[鈥榮] downtown has grown tremendously these past few years, and there are many cute restaurants and bars to visit.鈥� Students also like to 鈥済o to dinner with friends and go see a movie or go bowling, which are free in the town if you are a student.鈥�

DePauw students 鈥渁re very focused on getting their degrees and [landing] really good jobs.鈥� Considering that Depauw''s grads report at median starting salary of $52,300, (according to PayScale.com), we'd say they're achieving their goals. This is no doubt due to DePauw's 鈥渁mazing鈥� resources to help students find internships, jobs, etc. To begin with, undergrads love to highlight the 鈥渁lumni database [which is teeming with] successful people.鈥� Additionally, students can scour TigerTracks, an internal site that allows undergrads to search for jobs and internships listed specifically for DePauw students. The Hubbard Center for Student Engagement also offers some really unique programs beyond the traditional resume workshops and mock interviews. For example, collaborating with Indiana University's Kelly School of Business, DePauw offers the Liberal Arts Management Program, which teaches how businesses are created and how they function. The insight gleaned from programs like this is enormous.
