A small school with Quaker roots, Earlham College offers 鈥渟mall class sizes [that allow] faculty to easily connect with students.鈥� This is a result of a low student-faculty ratio which means students have plenty of opportunity to 鈥渉ave a strong and close connection with professors.鈥� Additionally, faculty are 鈥渆xtremely available and willing to connect鈥� to help their students really understand the subjects they 鈥渁re passionate in teaching.鈥� Those professors are 鈥渁mazing to work with,鈥� says a student. Another gushes, 鈥淭hey are like incredibly knowledgeable friends who have [a] strong interest in your future and helping you succeed.鈥� Overall, their courses are described as 鈥渞igorous,鈥� 鈥渋nteresting,鈥� and 鈥渆ngaging,鈥� and students also find they can 鈥済et the help [they] need鈥� without much trouble. Students here cite the unique academic programs which include Peace and Global Studies as well as a program called Epic Journey, 鈥渨hich [allots] students funds to...research [or intern] in any place or country of their liking.鈥� One student sums up the academic experience at Earlham: 鈥淓ach professor...has made me care about the subject of their class in a way I never would have expected鈥攚hether that鈥檚 opening up a field I already love or finding ways to connect new material to the subjects that are close to me.鈥�

Despite being a small school, Earlham manages to yield a 鈥渄iverse population.鈥� Indeed, you can find students 鈥渇rom all over the world鈥� who enrich the campus with their 鈥渋nteresting stories and backgrounds.鈥� Undergrads seem to mesh well as everyone treats each other 鈥渨ith kindness and compassion.鈥� Moreover, many students here are 鈥渃oncerned about social issues and justice鈥� and a large number 鈥渟eem to be inclined to left-wing policies.鈥� Or, as another undergrad puts it, 鈥淓arlham is hippies. Earlham is bare feet and climbing trees. Earlhamites are activists. They are earth lovers, peace lovers, and lovers of learning.鈥� Therefore, it鈥檚 not too shocking to learn that many students also describe their peers as 鈥渃ollaborative and encouraging鈥� because of the 鈥渃lose-knit bonds [they have] to the people around them.鈥� They 鈥渃are a lot about [their] community鈥� and 鈥渕ake sure everyone feels welcomed.鈥� As one undergrad concludes, 鈥淎fter being on campus for so long, it is easy to realize that everyone here is weird in their own ways, and the great part is that the community is very accepting and less judgmental than most other places.鈥�

Many undergrads proudly proclaim that the 鈥減ossibilities are endless鈥� at Earlham when it comes to campus activities. Indeed, it鈥檚 鈥渁 wonderful environment for passionate and selfdriven students鈥� who thrive on having 鈥渂ack-to-back commitments.鈥� As one enthusiastic individual explains, 鈥淚 run a club, direct and act in plays, sing in the choir, go to the gym, and still take nineteen credits.鈥� It鈥檚 hard to resist the many school-sponsored activities 鈥渟uch as concerts, bowling, movie night, [and] roller skating.鈥� Another popular activity is Dance Alloy, which is a 鈥渂i-yearly student choreographed dance performance鈥� that many students join and 鈥渟pend multiple nights a week practicing and preparing鈥� to get just right. Moreover, 鈥渆very other Friday night there is an open mic event...[where] everyone is welcome to perform.鈥� And when the weekend fully rolls around, you can 鈥渦sually [find some] house parties or people just [hanging] out with their friends.鈥� Those hang-out sessions can include 鈥渢alking about literature, playing cards, [or having] occasional nights of drinking and video games.鈥� And a good number simply love exploring the 鈥渓arge chunk of undeveloped woods behind [the] campus.鈥�

The Center for Global and Career Education is a great resource, offering coaching, r茅sum茅 guidance, and networking. And its Epic Advantage Internship Program provides all students with funding for a meaningful internship, research opportunity, or career-oriented experience, either during the summer or the academic year. 鈥淭here are 鈥� a lot of opportunities for research, internships, and travel,鈥� as well as 鈥渓ots of encouragement for [study] abroad programs.鈥� Earlham is 鈥渉ighly regarded,鈥� and the college 鈥渘etworks with a number of large programs and universities around the country and world.鈥� Further support is provided through Career Communities, which align students with mentors (faculty and alumni), advisers, and job and internship opportunities related to their interests. Payscale.com reports that 61% of Earlham graduates find a great deal of meaning in their job, and earn a median starting salary of $60,400.
