Located just thirty minutes outside of Chicago, Elmhurst University provides its 2,600 undergraduates 鈥渁n environment of free thought鈥� and a 鈥渞obust learning experience鈥� across more than sixty majors. The liberal arts education is bolstered by 鈥渁 lot of resources [that are] available for students to help them succeed in class鈥� and it 鈥減rovides [them the] opportunity to become well-rounded鈥� individuals. By encouraging students 鈥渢o engage in a variety of ways outside of class, including research, seminars, [and] internships,鈥� service learning is prevalent here. Added to that are small classes, which mean 鈥済etting time with a professor is never a problem.鈥� And based on enthusiastic responses, about these 鈥渆xceptionally bright, gifted, and educated鈥� faculty, you鈥檒l want to see your 鈥渄own to earth鈥� teachers, who strive to make sure their students not only 鈥渢horoughly understand the material, [but also how to] apply it.鈥� It helps, too, that professors assign 鈥減rojects [that] are often given a lot of artistic individual choice.鈥� One student shares, 鈥淚鈥檝e had professors email me to check in and make sure I was doing alright if I was quieter than usual in class.鈥� It鈥檚 clear that the instructors here 鈥渄o not only teach, they avidly help their students succeed,鈥� all with the goal of 鈥渂uilding personal and lasting relationships.鈥�

As one student puts it, 鈥淲hat sets students at Elmhurst apart from other [universities] is the genuine kindness and compassion that is displayed.鈥� As such, this is an 鈥渙utgoing and social鈥� school where 鈥減eople will start up a conversation with you and make you feel welcome right away.鈥� That鈥檚 good because the Elmhurst community features 鈥渁 great blend of traditional and nontraditional students, with an environment that intermingles on-campus students with those who commute.鈥� Regardless of where the students live, though, they鈥檙e all 鈥渧ery driven and goal-oriented,鈥� and 鈥渕any typically work at a job and internship, and volunteer every week.鈥� But should you ever feel overwhelmed, the majority of students here are 鈥渧ery welcoming and open to helping other students,鈥� and 鈥渋t is a very small environment so making friends is easy.鈥� Another student sums it up by saying, 鈥淓lmhurst is a campus that I can feel safe in, and that is largely due to the student body.鈥�

Students not only largely agree that 鈥渓ife at Elmhurst is very calm鈥� but they seem to prefer it. Attendees 鈥渇ill their days mostly by hanging out with friends or spending their time 鈥� in different clubs or organizations.鈥� One activity that many tend to gravitate towards is Greek life, which 鈥減lays a huge role鈥� for several students鈥攑lus, Greek-sponsored events 鈥渢ake place semi-frequently鈥� for the other students to enjoy as well. (Perhaps surprisingly, though, on-campus parties 鈥渁re mostly sports-related.鈥�) The school鈥檚 student center also has a lot going on, as 鈥渢here always seems to be free food or an activity.鈥� But the student center pulls double duty: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a very comfortable environment for long periods of casual studying鈥� too. Overall, 鈥淓lmhurst has a ton to offer in terms of entertainment, dining, outdoor activities, museums, and is a quick drive or train ride to Chicago.鈥� Also notable are claims that 鈥渋t鈥檚 a very safe area where everyone is able to pursue their interests freely and without concern.鈥�
