Research, service, scholarship, and extracurricular opportunities are abundant at the 鈥渓arge campus鈥� of Florida State University in Tallahassee. It鈥檚 rather easy to understand why students are drawn to Florida State. After all, the 鈥渃ampus is gorgeous,鈥� 鈥渢he weather is always nice鈥� and there are an abundance 鈥渙f resources at your fingertips.鈥� What鈥檚 more, 鈥渄espite its large size...the community is welcoming and [undergrads] don鈥檛 feel like an anonymous face in the student body.鈥� Incredibly, it鈥檚 still 鈥渆asy to feel at home.鈥� Much of that can be credited to faculty who 鈥渁re very willing to help undergraduate students with classes, research, career prospects, and everything in between.鈥� Florida State professors also excel at bringing their 鈥渃ourses to life and mak[ing] them interesting enough that [students truly] want to learn.鈥� Many are also 鈥渆xperts in their field.鈥� And 鈥渢hey make it known that they want students to succeed.鈥� To that end, 鈥渋n addition to making themselves available... for office hours, they [continually] offer to make time for students [beyond those hours].鈥� Perhaps this grateful undergrad says it best, 鈥淭heir advice has pushed me to be a better student and pushed me to find a great future.鈥�

Florida State manages to attract a student body that鈥檚 a 鈥渦nique mixture of south Floridians, crunchy granolas, Northern snowbirds, sorority girls, and good ole boys, with a nice international population mixed in there.鈥� Despite these diverse personalities, the university still seems to cultivate a 鈥渟trong sense of community.鈥� Of course, it definitely helps that students are 鈥渧ery friendly and always willing to [strike] up conversation.鈥� Even better, 鈥渆veryone you see seems genuinely happy鈥� and everyone 鈥渋s pushing for you.鈥� People here want to see their peers 鈥渟ucceed.鈥� As one impressed student shares, 鈥淓veryone is so kind. No one is afraid to ask for help, and if they do most would be more than willing to help you out.鈥� Undergrads also applaud FSU for doing 鈥渁 great job in creating or allowing students to create spaces for all communities, particularly those that are historically marginalized/typically first gen students.鈥� And no matter what else, students here come together in their shared 鈥渓ove for FSU.鈥� As this satisfied student sums up, 鈥淚 have never been on a campus with such school spirit, excitement, and motivation to improve.鈥�

Life at Florida State offers a great 鈥渕ix of academics, socializing, [and] extracurricular [activities].鈥� To begin with, athletics are fairly popular and you can frequently spot 鈥渂asketball games and volleyball games鈥� popping up around campus. And during the fall, weekends 鈥渁re spent [at] football games and tailgates.鈥� Aside from sports, we鈥檝e been informed that the 鈥淪tudent Life Cinema always has cool events going on鈥� and 鈥渢here are always free concerts at Club Down Under on campus鈥� as well. FSU also has 鈥渕any organizations that are focused on philanthropy.鈥� For example, 鈥淒ance Marathon is the largest student run organization on campus and we have one of the largest Dance Marathons in the entire country. We also have a large Relay for Life organization.鈥� Moreover, a number of undergrads enjoy FSU鈥檚 reservation, an 鈥渙ff campus [spot] where students can go swimming, paddle boarding, relaxing, or even [try out a] ropes course.鈥� Of course, it鈥檚 also important to mention that some students feel as though 鈥淕reek life dominates鈥� the social scene, even though 鈥渓ess than 50% of the student population [participates].鈥� Finally, undergrads greatly appreciate hometown Tallahassee. The city offers 鈥渆ndless鈥� nightlife along with 鈥渕any great clubs and places for social events as well as pretty landscapes and historical sites.鈥�

The Career Center is FSU鈥檚 centralized resource for linking students with jobs, internships, and mentors, and it hosts workshops and R茅sum茅 Caf茅s to help students along the way. 鈥淥ur career fairs and internship fairs are incredible and attended by a large amount of employers,鈥� says a student. The school encourages students to document and plan for their future careers through its online Career Portfolio tool and ProfessioNole Pathways program. The faculty 鈥渁lso help assist students in career opportunities and bring companies in to speak.鈥� The school鈥檚 required Build Your Foundation program is dedicated to making sure students have access to all the career planning competencies and tools needed to progress on their career path, and includes early assessments and connection to the alumni network. As one student sums it up: 鈥淲ith a little bit of confidence and networking, the opportunities are limitless.鈥� Payscale.com says FSU alumni earn a median starting salary of $60,500, and 50 percent find a great deal of meaning in their job.
