Fordham University 鈥淸takes] pride in caring for the whole person鈥� and reinforces the value of an education through its 鈥渄edication to making as many opportunities available to students as possible.鈥� Students appreciate that the curriculum helps them 鈥渢hink critically and sets up a good base for a liberal arts education,鈥� and many highlight how 鈥渞equired core classes such as theology and philosophy鈥� mean that 鈥渟tudents have to at least dip their toes in鈥� a variety of disciplines. Professional development resources are plentiful, with 鈥渕any opportunities for internships and mentorship,鈥� as well as 鈥渁 great Career Center that helps students with r茅sum茅s, provides free headshots, and oftentimes will include free professional clothing.鈥� It also helps that Fordham 鈥渉as one of the strongest alumni networks, the connections made through this network are unmatched.鈥� Class formats vary across departments and professors, and 鈥淸include] several learning approaches that go beyond traditional lectures,鈥� such as 鈥渇ield trips meant to make us explore and respect [others],鈥� like visiting a Buddhist temple. Many classes are 鈥渟mall and discussion-based, which creates an environment where students feel comfortable sharing ideas and engaging with different perspectives.鈥� Across disciplines, faculty consistently 鈥渂ring insight from their career and own experience鈥�and just want to see you succeed.鈥� One student concludes, 鈥淎fter four years I feel as though my education was as well-rounded as it could possibly be.鈥�

The cosmopolitan campuses of Fordham house a 鈥渇ashionable, fast-paced and focused鈥� student body from all over the world, including 鈥渁 mixture of resident and commuting students.鈥� There is 鈥渁 strong intellectual community鈥� to be found among this group, which is 鈥渉ard-working and driven, striving to excel in [their] careers after graduation.鈥� This goal-minded set is also 鈥渙pen to collaboration and conversation.鈥� People 鈥渁ren鈥檛 here to just sit down and take classes, but to explore their future and push themselves,鈥� and 鈥測ou鈥檒l see students who are focused on business or law alongside artists, activists, and people still figuring things out.鈥� Creativity is also prized and 鈥減eople are allowed and encouraged to shine.鈥� While there is a wide range of backgrounds and interests, and the 鈥減opulation of students can be quite different between the two campuses,鈥� most agree that Fordham students are 鈥渨elcoming and outgoing,鈥� and there鈥檚 鈥渁 keen sense of wanting to be in New York City and [a] focus on getting the most out of lived experiences.鈥�

Days at Fordham 鈥渁re busy but not frantic: classes, study groups, club meetings, part-time jobs, and practices for sports or intramurals.鈥� The two main campuses are located in Manhattan and the Bronx, which 鈥渕akes for the perfect university setting since there are many 鈥榯hird spaces鈥� available for students.鈥� In addition, the Ram Van campus shuttle allows all to 鈥渞eally get the best of both worlds鈥�there鈥檚 always something new to explore either on or off campus.鈥� The Bronx campus is 鈥渓ocated right by the NYBG [New York Botanical Garden] and Bronx Zoo.鈥� Given the ease of public transportation, people 鈥渟pend a lot of free time exploring the city,鈥� including 鈥渟hopping, visiting Central Park, going out to eat, going to Broadway shows or movies, and more.鈥� The school demonstrates a 鈥渃ommitment to generous funding for clubs and extracurriculars,鈥� and the Campus Activities Board 鈥渙ften has free, fun events to attend鈥� like the popular monthly bingo game. Overall, campus life is 鈥渁ctive, engaging, and career-focused,鈥� and 鈥渄ays bounce between classes, internships, and long library grinds, with coffee runs and campus hangs in between.鈥� One student sums up the overall Fordham experience: 鈥淕ated Gothic campus, familiar faces, traditions that repeat. Proximity to Manhattan, an extensive alumni network, and 鈥渢op-notch internship placement鈥� are some of Fordham鈥檚 greatest assets for career-minded students. It鈥檚 no surprise that the school鈥檚 vast internship program is one of the most popular opportunities, with its access to more than 3,500 organizations in New York and beyond (81 percent of undergrads complete at least one). 鈥淎lmost every upperclassman I know has a job or internship, and many have multiple at the same time,鈥� one student says. Business majors especially find that the Gabelli Personal and Professional Development office 鈥渄oes a tremendous job at preparing and polishing students as they navigate the various steps necessary for securing employment.鈥� The central Career Center offers help with everything from resumes and cover letters to interview prep, and tailors career planning to the individual through its Fordham Futures program, which aligns career fairs, workshops, and seminars with each student鈥檚 academic pursuits. Fordham鈥檚 Alumni Mentoring Program helps current enrollees connect with alumni for informational interviews and professional networking, and alumni are 鈥渇requently on campus to help with recruiting.鈥� For undergrads still unsure about their futures, career and volunteer fairs allow them to explore their options. And many professors 鈥渋ncorporate their career experiences into their teachings,鈥� sharing 鈥渁 lot of real-world experience and knowledge鈥� with their students.
