Haverford College鈥檚 Quaker roots still reverberate through this nonsectarian academic powerhouse, bringing a strong focus on community and integrity. Haverford maintains one of the country鈥檚 oldest honor codes, which fosters a 鈥渢rust, concern, and respect鈥� between students and professors. As one undergrad elaborates, 鈥淏eing able to take an exam in your own room, sitting relaxed on your bed because your professor trusts you not to look at your books is one of the luxuries of being here.鈥� A classmate adds, 鈥淚 love the amount of independence and autonomy [the school] gives to its students.鈥� Undergrads also 鈥渉ave a lot of power鈥� when it comes to how the college is run. This ensures that Haverford has 鈥渁 really conscientious student body invested in the school.鈥� Enrollees note that Haverford鈥檚 small size 鈥渁llows for plenty of opportunities for collaborating with faculty and staff 鈥� and the college even grants 鈥渃redit for research.鈥� Also, thanks to partnerships with nearby Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, and the University of Pennsylvania, students have even more opportunities to cross-register, though one student suggests you won鈥檛 want to leave Haverford鈥檚 鈥渆xceptionally vibrant and engaging鈥� campus or the 鈥渁wesome, invested鈥� professors that challenge you to think critically. Here, 鈥測ou are more than just a face in a classroom...you are a unique person that has something to offer.鈥� This is underscored by another student who shares, 鈥淢y 鈥榖ig intro lecture course鈥� has 41 students. My professor still knows me by name, and we have long conversations when we pass on Founder鈥檚 Green.鈥� Ultimately, Haverford undergrads are privy to 鈥渁 challenging, interesting environment with the best people I know.鈥�

The 鈥渞idiculously friendly鈥� undergrads at Haverford are united in their passion for learning. Indeed, many students are armed with an insatiable curiosity, which means that 鈥減eople are always up for intellectual discussion.鈥� This also means that 鈥渆veryone works very hard鈥� to be educated, and for all the right reasons: they 鈥渨ant to succeed for themselves and not to appease others.鈥� Though many of your peers likely hail from the mid-Atlantic and New England, they come 鈥渇rom all different social circles鈥� and the school is increasingly diverse鈥攋ust over 50% of the student body now identifies as a person of color. Moreover, members of the overall population are perceived to have 鈥渉earts of gold and giant brains that they put to use to change the world for the better.鈥� As one undergrad explains, 鈥淚 feel like I could potentially become friends with anyone on campus.鈥� As one student further explains, 鈥淚t鈥檚 a small school full of nice kids...just genuinely compassionate and interested in other people, whether or not that鈥檚 鈥榗ool.鈥欌��

Haverford has a sense of community that鈥檚 fueled by its honor code and size. Sometimes that feels 鈥渓ike everyone knows your business,鈥� but undergrads emphasize that their peers are very nice and that 鈥渢he social scene is great.鈥� In short, it鈥檚 an 鈥渁wesome...place where community thrives and cliques are very loose if existent at all.鈥� Though students are incredibly diligent about their coursework, they certainly carve out time for fun as well. The college maintains over 145 organizations including Brew Club (for home brewing enthusiasts), Haute (a fashion collective), and the Haverford Microfinance Consulting Club. Additionally, athletics are also 鈥渞eally important,鈥� with more than 50% of undergrads participating in a club or varsity sport. And while Haverford doesn鈥檛 maintain any Greek life, some teams 鈥渇unction like fraternities.鈥� Finally, when people want a breather from campus life, there鈥檚 plenty to enjoy and explore. After all, New York and Philadelphia are both easily accessible by train, and 鈥淪uburban Square (the local outdoor shopping center) is a great place to hang out, get coffee, or even go shopping.鈥�

Students at Haverford appreciate the numerous internship and research opportunities they have鈥攅specially ones with financial support鈥攍ocally in the city of Philadelphia, across the U.S., and abroad. And the Internship Network lets students connect with others to share and discuss their internship experiences. The Center for Career and Professional Advising (CCPA), with a mission to empower past and enrolled students to 鈥渢ranslate their Haverford liberal arts education into a rewarding life,鈥� offers numerous recruiting events and job opportunities via Handshake, as well as other helpful resources like career advising, externships, and CV review (the CCPA aims to have 100 percent of students with a reviewed resume by the end of their sophomore year). Payscale.com says Haverford College graduates have a median starting salary of around $72,700, and 58 percent get a high level of meaning from their job.
