Taking pride in its status as a 鈥渟mall, Christian, classical liberal arts college,鈥 Hillsdale College 鈥渃hallenges its students to become confident and independent individuals.鈥 Students can earn a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the arts or sciences while studying a core curriculum focused on 鈥渓iterature, philosophy, theology, history, the fine arts, and the natural sciences鈥 that establishes 鈥渁 common baseline for all.鈥 This sense of community drives 鈥渘on-sectarian鈥 classrooms where 鈥渙pen-minded and respectful discourse is promoted and encouraged.鈥 This applies equally to teachers who 鈥渁re not only scholarly and professional, but also people that care about their students鈥 and who 鈥減articipate in the discussions as well, without stamping down our ideas. They have a heart to grow our minds and independence.鈥 Teaching is 鈥渁n opportunity for mentorship and not just as a requirement for a research grant.鈥 Classes are 鈥渧ery discussion-focused and rooted in the large amounts of reading [we do].鈥 One Museum Studies student loved the chance to 鈥渃ollaborate with other classmates to design and curate museum displays, work with the college archivist, and get to be hands-on with original artifacts.鈥 Overall, there鈥檚 an appreciation for how academics lead to opportunities to 鈥渂ecome more virtuous and faithful.鈥
