Indiana University Bloomington provides its Hoosier students 鈥渢he knowledge to be successful in our futures through great faculty, facilities, and tradition.鈥� That translates to 16 separate colleges and 鈥渟chool systems [that] are great and easy to access,鈥� with enrollees noting that they can explore 鈥渁nything we want, whenever,鈥� an ability that ultimately helps them find 鈥渢he key thing we鈥檒l love through many opportunities and great programs.鈥� IU endeavors toward that discovery by proudly offering students access to courses outside of their designated field, allowing them to guide their own research, and providing the opportunity to personalize one鈥檚 education through the Individualized Major Program. Other favorite academic features at IU are the 鈥渨orld-renowned business program鈥� at the Kelley School of Business and the Jacobs School of Music, both of which attract students from around the globe. Courses across campus are known for being 鈥渞igorous,鈥� and students collaborate 鈥渁cademically and non-academically as one community.鈥� Guidance and support also come from 鈥渕any excellent professors鈥� on campus that 鈥渃learly want what鈥檚 best for their students.鈥� One student points out that 鈥渃ommunicating with students/ professors is easy.鈥� Another student explains that their instructors 鈥渞eally care about what they do鈥� and 鈥渂ring their subjects to life.鈥� With that in mind, students feel equipped to get the most out of this 鈥渞igorous and competitive鈥� education.

With more than 37,000 undergraduate students at IU, 鈥測ou are destined to find someone whom you 鈥榗lick鈥� with.鈥� On campus and around Bloomington, 鈥淗oosier Hospitality鈥� is a huge perk for IU students, and students find their niche at one of the 750-plus student organizations on campus, athletic events, or just hanging out at Indiana Memorial Union on campus. One student emphasizes that students on campus are 鈥渧ery respectful of one another and ready to help out a fellow Hoosier.鈥� Generally, Hoosiers are known for finding 鈥渁n equal balance of school and social life鈥� and being 鈥渉ard workers who also know how to have fun on the weekends.鈥� Between 鈥減opular鈥� house parties and the 25% of undergrads who join one of the 60+ fraternities, there鈥檚 鈥渁 strong social scene鈥� at IU. But regardless of your scene, students find IU to be a 鈥渇un collegiate environment.鈥�

Indiana University Bloomington offers 鈥渢he perfect combination of excellent undergraduate teaching, Division I athletic teams backed by a passionate sense of school spirit, and a lively social scene.鈥� One student reports that 鈥渁cademics and school spirit are [the] specialties,鈥� so when not studying, a weekend for Hoosier families in the fall features a tailgate party; basketball season kicks off with a rally known as Hoosier Hysteria; and IU hosts the Little 500 each year, a stadium-based bicycle race that鈥檚 modeled after the Indianapolis 500. In their free time, Hoosiers can be found 鈥渨orking out鈥� or 鈥渞unning鈥� regularly. Students also like to unwind by the fire pit or watch free movies at the Indiana Memorial Union, or get involved in one of the many clubs on campus. Off campus, 鈥渢he vibrant city of Bloomington鈥� (or 鈥淏-town,鈥� as the students describe it) is 鈥渢he best-kept secret of the Midwest.鈥� Food is a particular highlight, with 鈥渕any options to choose from,鈥� all described as 鈥渁mazing.鈥� The town also hosts the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival as well as Freezefest, an ice-sculpture competition. In warmer months, nearby Griffy Lake and Monroe Lake offer kayaking, canoeing, and boating. And for the Hoosiers in need of repose, like-minded peers can be found 鈥渓ying outside on the grass and on benches snoozing.鈥� Thanks to student groups having 鈥渕uch freedom of planning,鈥� it seems there鈥檚 鈥渁lways something going on...that will fit the needs of any student.鈥�
