With more than 150 years of traditions and achievements on the record, Kansas State University is the nation鈥檚 first operational land-grant university, offering more than 250 undergraduate majors and programs across three campuses, as well as various global online courses. The university鈥檚 sprawling 2,300-acre main campus in Manhattan, Kansas (nicknamed 鈥淭he Little Apple鈥�) includes comprehensive agricultural and research facilities, while the newest campus, Olathe, is located in the Kansas Biosciences Park and works to expand partnerships between students, researchers, and companies. 鈥淟eadership opportunities are always within an arm鈥檚 length,鈥� says a student. On the administration鈥檚 part, there is excellent 鈥渃ommunication of resources available to students,鈥� and the school is 鈥渧ery conscious of showing students what they are paying for and listening to student feedback in what prices should be for fees/services.鈥� In demonstrating further commitment to quality, 鈥減rofessor performance grades are sent out to students at the end of every semester.鈥� At this research powerhouse, faculty members not only conduct 鈥渁mazing research that is being nationally recognized鈥� but also strive to do in a way that lets them 鈥減ass on their knowledge to the students.鈥� Such efforts are also recognized in and out of the classroom, whether that鈥檚 in the way teachers 鈥渁re skilled at making classes interesting鈥� or how they lead review sessions 鈥渢o better help students focus on harder topics.鈥� (Students also mention how discussion boards are 鈥渓argely utilized for engagement.) In general, professors are praised for responding 鈥渜uickly and well to emails鈥� and overall come across as 鈥渁pproachable and really want to see their students learn and succeed.鈥�

K-State is composed of 鈥渕any international students, first generation students, and students from virtually all race, religion, and age,鈥� as well as 鈥渕any students who grew up on a farm or other rural areas,鈥� all of whom contribute to a 鈥渨onderful community mindset.鈥� Traditions abound here, and 鈥渢he university instills this very real feeling of belonging and family鈥� known as the Wildcat Way. 鈥淧urple pride is taken very seriously鈥� here, so much so that one student notes how 鈥淲e see that Wildcat, and know we鈥檙e part of the same family.鈥� This is 鈥渁 big school with a small-town feel,鈥� and everyone is 鈥渆xceedingly friendly and proud of the university.鈥� The school itself provides plenty of ways for students to be involved, and there are 鈥渁 multitude of opportunities for students to find their own space to grow and succeed in.鈥�

The college town of Manhattan 鈥減rovides those from bigger cities with the pros of a smalltown feel (community, laid-back style) while also giving students from rural areas a more city-like lifestyle.鈥� As one student puts it: 鈥淚t is super easy to balance school and a social life here since the majority of the people who live here are students.鈥� The bars, restaurants, and shopping in the neighborhood of Aggieville make it 鈥渁 vibrant hotspot for activity every weekend and even on weekdays.鈥� The 鈥済ym facilities and hiking trails nearby are beautiful and a great way to get moving,鈥� and 鈥渢he city and university maintain public sidewalks and trails for those wishing to bike/run.鈥� All student amenities 鈥渁re within walking distance,鈥� and for fun, 鈥渕any people attend parties, hang out with friends, and attend events hosted in the student union.鈥� Intramurals are wildly popular, and Greek life 鈥渋s fun but not too overpowering,鈥� ensuring that the overall vibe allows students to 鈥渇ocus on their studies and dedicate their daytime hours to ensuring they complete their coursework.鈥�

Kansas State University (KSU) students find that its size, staff, and resources encourage them to 鈥渟ucceed and be noticed for opportunities that will shape not only our careers, but who we are and who we are becoming.鈥� Professors 鈥済o out of their way to help鈥� students pursue their interests, and the Career Center connects students to 鈥渓eadership opportunities [that] are always within an arm鈥檚 length,鈥� helping them build skillsets to excel in their careers. Students learn from professionals in their fields through internships, research studies, or in the community with service programs like HandsOn Kansas State. Jobs can be found on the Handshake app, and students engage directly with employers during informational interviews, company visits to the classroom, and even extracurriculars, like the student-led consulting club K-Solutions Team that is 鈥渟olving problems for small-businesses in order to gain experience.鈥� According to PayScale.com, 55 percent of surveyed KSU students find meaning in their work and earn a starting median salary of $62,600.
