Louisiana State University is heralded by its students for having 鈥渢ons of different programs to choose from鈥� and 鈥渟tellar academics.鈥� A few that students mention are the strong engineering and mass communications programs. Students also appreciate that they鈥檙e not just abandoned under a variety of classes and programs. 鈥淣o matter what issue you鈥檙e having, there is [someone] whose entire job is to help you deal with it,鈥� says a student. 鈥淭he tutoring centers are beyond helpful,鈥� if you need assistance with your studies, and faculty is 鈥渁lways available to help students鈥� outside of class. This extra scaffolding keeps the rigor of academic programs 鈥渃hallenging but not unbearable.鈥� Some students recall lectures that are 鈥渆xtremely boring,鈥� and cite language barriers they鈥檝e encountered with a few professors. But undergrads are impressed overall, stating, 鈥淧rofessors at LSU...are passionate about their fields of study鈥� and are 鈥渁ccessible, accommodating, and well-informed.鈥�

Southern hospitality shines through in most here, as 鈥渕any students are clearly Louisianans first and students second.鈥� While many may be state natives, students frequently comment that 鈥渢he student body at LSU is very diverse.鈥� One adds, 鈥淚 love being able to walk around campus and see people of all cultures speaking different languages and engaging with one another.鈥� Along with cultures, interests vary too: 鈥淵ou have people that are party animals, Christian loyalists, sports enthusiasts, [and] academic maniacs.鈥� While students appreciate the diversity, some note that the population 鈥渃ontinues to be predominated by white, cisgender, and mostly heterosexual people.鈥� Nonetheless, a community atmosphere prevails, allowing students to 鈥渞eally feel like they are a part of something bigger.鈥� This camaraderie extends all across campus because 鈥減eople here care about smiles and friendliness,鈥� giving it 鈥渁 smaller and more intimate atmosphere.鈥� As one student puts it, as long as 鈥測ou鈥檙e a Tiger, then you鈥檙e family.鈥� As another student observes, 鈥淲hen you mix Louisiana culture with 30,000 students who love their school, you get an amazing combination.鈥�

This 鈥渂eautiful southern university鈥� offers 鈥渢he best of both worlds,鈥� combining its academics with 鈥渟o many clubs and groups...for students to join.鈥� For fun and fitness, 鈥渢he weather is beautiful here and [the] campus is located next to large lakes where a lot of people run or walk.鈥� If you want to take it indoors, the recreation center is an 鈥渁mazing facility鈥� that 鈥渋s great for group classes and working out during the day or relaxing at the pool.鈥� Socially, 鈥淕reek life is prominent,鈥� but if that鈥檚 not your thing, 鈥渢here are so many different subgroups, and there鈥檚 really a place for everyone.鈥� No matter where you fit in, 鈥渢ailgating and football are central to the school.鈥� As one student says, 鈥淚t is [an] absolutely amazing environment [in which] everyone comes together to support the teams.鈥� Another adds, 鈥淲hen 鈥楥alling Baton Rouge鈥� gets played at an event you end up singing it and dancing to it with someone new, whoever is next to you, no matter where they are from.鈥� That love for Baton Rouge extends off-campus as well, to the city itself, which students call 鈥渦nderrated [and] cool.鈥�
