Manhattan University provides 鈥渁n unbelievable community鈥� where students are encouraged to 鈥渢hink critically, collaborate, and apply what they learn beyond the classroom.鈥� The school鈥檚 location is another major draw: 鈥淏eing in New York gives us access to real projects, internships, and connections with professionals.鈥� That industry experience often extends into the classroom. 鈥淔or example, our jazz band director is a professional jazz musician in the city and is an incredible mentor for students,鈥� says one student. An engineering student similarly reports that instructors are 鈥渁pproachable and actually want you to succeed鈥攖hey take time to explain things and push you to think like an engineer.鈥� Small 鈥渃lass sizes allow for meaningful interaction, feedback, and mentorship鈥� from professors across majors. Beyond the classroom, Manhattan鈥檚 alumni network also plays an important role in helping students prepare for their careers. 鈥淚t is very easy to build alumni relationships. Alumni are generally very willing to meet virtually or in-person for discussions and advice, [and] provide referrals for internship or job opportunities.鈥� Together, these academic and professional connections shape the supportive environment students describe. As one student puts it: 鈥淢y entire academic experience at Manhattan has been wonderful, and I can truly attribute that to the incredible staff and the caring nature of the community as a whole.鈥�

Manhattan University students are 鈥渇ocused on building something for themselves and their families, which creates a strong sense of grit and community.鈥� Many 鈥渃ommute, work part-time, and still show up ready to contribute.鈥� Students are supportive and often 鈥渟hare notes, explain challenging concepts, and try to make sure everyone understands what鈥檚 going on. It feels less like competition and more like a group of people all trying to make something out of their lives.鈥� Overall, MU students are 鈥渃reative, productive, passionate, and dedicated鈥�and bring new ideas to the table,鈥� which may stem from the fact that students 鈥渃ome from a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds. For example, many students on campus are first-generation (like myself) or international students. Furthermore,鈥�we have students from different states and areas of New York.鈥� Once on campus, 鈥渆veryone is open to becoming friends with whomever they speak to.鈥� Another student likewise describes their peers as 鈥渉ardworking, but also a bit delightful, people who can joke around, keep things light, and still take the work seriously when it matters.鈥� In short, 鈥渢he student body at Manhattan University is AMAZING!鈥�

Student-run clubs are at the heart of the social scene at MU, and students love that many offer academic or pre-professional elements that complement coursework: 鈥淢any of the clubs at our school offer alumni presentations so that students may gain insight about where they could be headed once they graduate.鈥� For example, one student cites the investment club as 鈥渕y true introduction to finance, and it set me up for success in my future classes.鈥� Other favorite clubs are based on culture or interests. The treasurer of the Asian Student Association says, 鈥淚 love my culture鈥�, so getting to interact with others through a club that makes Asian culture the centerpiece is great.鈥� In addition, many students report that their 鈥渇avorite extracurricular activities include club/intramural sports,鈥� including volleyball, basketball, flag football, and soccer. Students also highlight the performing arts department. 鈥淲e put out amazing performances each semester and there is such a lovely community within the performing arts.鈥� Off campus, many students make the most of 鈥渙ur location in NYC to engage with the city鈥檚 culture and nightlife.鈥� Overall, students enjoy the balance between 鈥渢he comfort and community of a college campus, while also being deeply connected to the 鈥榬eal world鈥� and the rest of NYC.鈥�
