Many students cite the quality of Mercer University鈥檚 education as a high point, applauding a curriculum that provides 鈥渁 lot of versatile exposure to different subjects.鈥� This can be seen especially in study abroad options that are available to every major and which range from semester and year-long programs to shorter, faculty-led trips or service-learning experiences. Even at home, there are 鈥減lenty of ways to gain leadership and research experience鈥濃�擬ercer is known for its research opportunities. As one student explains, 鈥淩esearch and liberal arts go hand in hand here.鈥� Another student describes the school as 鈥渨ell-rounded in its academic offerings and quality鈥� and emphasizes that 鈥渟tudents of all intended majors should feel welcomed.鈥� It鈥檚 an academically rigorous environment and professors 鈥渆xpect you to put in the work.鈥� As one student explains, 鈥淭here is no such thing as an 鈥榚asy A.鈥� However, [the professors] are there to help if you ask鈥� and 鈥淭here鈥檚 help for anyone for anything.鈥� The school鈥檚 鈥渟mall class size allows you to connect with faculty鈥濃�攜ou 鈥渇eel like a person rather than just a number at Mercer.鈥� As one student describes, 鈥淧rofessors are willing to put in the extra effort to help students with their needs and/or direct them to those that can best help them.鈥� In short, Mercer 鈥渃hallenges you to learn and do better, and has a great amount of opportunities to enrich your learning.鈥�

鈥淓ven though this is a small school in Georgia, there are people from all over who attend Mercer.鈥� What unites them is that they鈥檙e 鈥渇ull of school spirit鈥� and 鈥渉ighly engaged on campus and in our community.鈥� It鈥檚 鈥渆asy to find a group that you fit in with,鈥� and 鈥渆veryone always finds their niche and their people,鈥� the result of which is that 鈥渢here is always going to be someone there when you need support.鈥� Overall, people are 鈥渧ery friendly and outgoing鈥� and 鈥渆asy to talk to and work with.鈥� Students are 鈥渧ery smart and dedicated鈥� and there is 鈥渓ots of studying and importance put on academics,鈥� though they鈥檙e also described as 鈥渄eeply committed to extracurriculars,鈥� whether it鈥檚 clubs, intramurals, or student government. From participating in research to leading an organization, Mercerians 鈥渁re highly motivated and have ambitious goals.鈥� However, it鈥檚 far from being overly competitive. Rather, students feel supported by their peers, who 鈥渁re not just people you see in passing, they are people who will uplift you and inspire you to continue to do your best.鈥�

Mercer has a beautiful campus and students enjoy 鈥渞eading on the benches [and] doing work outside in good weather.鈥� On the weekends, many students enjoy tailgating and attending sporting events and can also head into nearby Macon. Many students spend time at the gym and join the group fitness classes, which range from spin to yoga. The school also collaborates with the local climbing gym, allowing students to rock climb for free, and many students participate in the 鈥渕assive intramural sports program.鈥� One favorite Mercer tradition is BearStock, a music festival that takes place during the spring semester. While Greek life is popular, there is also a 鈥済inormous selection of clubs鈥� and students can easily get involved in something that interests them, whether it鈥檚 astronomy, D&D, volunteer work, theater, or ballroom dance. It鈥檚 a studious environment, so much so that the 鈥渙pen and accessible鈥� library keeps some floors open 24 hours a day and sometimes provides 鈥渓ittle goodies to give us motivation to get through the week.鈥� All these offerings lead students to conclude 鈥渢he community is truly unmatched if you reach out and get involved.鈥�

Mercer University鈥檚 Center for Career and Professional Development offers a wide range of services to help students explore majors, clarify career goals, and prepare for life after graduation. Through the Focus 2 Career platform and other assessments, students can identify their interests, values, and strengths, enabling them to make informed decisions about majors and careers. Personalized support is available through individual appointments with career consultants, who assist with r茅sum茅s, cover letters, interview preparation, and job and internship searches. The center also connects students to experiential learning opportunities such as micro-internships offered through Parker Dewey, allowing them to gain real-world experience in short-term, paid projects. Mercer hosts a variety of events designed to help students build professional connections, such as the Job and Internship Career Expo and the Accounting and Finance Networking and Career Fair. The center can also help students connect to the Mercer network for meaningful conversations with alumni mentors. Mercer University offers 鈥渂ig school resources with small school connections,鈥� with one student adding, 鈥淭hese connections have led to internships and job opportunities for me.鈥� Another student appreciates that 鈥淭he Mercer name carries weight around the state when looking for job opportunities.鈥� Mercer equips students with the tools they need and 鈥減repares you for whatever career you are going into.鈥� According to Payscale.com, the median early-career salary for Mercer graduates is $63,700, with 62 percent deriving a high level of meaning from their jobs.
