Montclair State University provides 鈥渄iverse programs/curriculum, and [a] focus on student success and career readiness.鈥� The school 鈥渄oes an amazing job creating opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience鈥攆rom internships and media projects to programs that help us build professional networks before graduation.鈥� Montclair also offers a 鈥渟trong support system for students鈥� and 鈥渢he resources you need to succeed.鈥� As one student explains, 鈥淗aving multiple communications that can help me with a problem from financial aid, classes, etc., is super helpful and puts a lot less stress on me.鈥� Among the many types of resources for students are classrooms with 鈥渋nteractive platforms, live coding sessions, and simulations to make lessons more engaging and practical.鈥� And one student reports, 鈥淚n my History of the Spanish Inquisition class, we鈥檙e doing a unit on using AI to build databases.鈥� Professors are 鈥減assionate about what they teach and truly invested in their students鈥� growth, often going out of their way to provide guidance, opportunities, and real-world insight.鈥� In the classroom, they also 鈥渕ake the material engaging by connecting lessons to real-world situations and encouraging open discussion in class.鈥� This eye toward practicality and future application does not go unnoticed by students, one of whom says, 鈥淚 feel like I am learning critical information pertaining to my future career path.鈥�

Students appreciate that Montclair State is 鈥渁n incredibly diverse school with people from all over the world.鈥� Students 鈥渧ary in age, culture, and experiences鈥� and 鈥渆veryone is extremely accepting.鈥� Wandering the campus, one can 鈥渟ee all kinds of expression here, from the way people dress to the way they speak up for what they believe in.鈥� Red Hawks, as students are called, 鈥渁re nice, very respectful, and helpful throughout campus, [and] the friendly nature of the students makes for a lively atmosphere.鈥� At Montclair, 鈥測ou鈥檒l meet people who are career focused, others who are passionate about activism, and some who are still figuring things out, and that mix creates a really dynamic environment.鈥� The mix of goals and backgrounds culminates in a harmonious thrum to daily living: 鈥淭here鈥檚 this incredible energy on campus; everyone鈥檚 always juggling classes, jobs, and internships, yet still finding time to support one another and get involved.鈥�

The school 鈥渋s always pushing student involvement and for students to put themselves out there and go out of [their] comfort [zones],鈥� and 鈥渋t is very fun to try new things鈥�and [see] what becomes of an event and what you as a student gain from it.鈥� As one student explains, 鈥淚 never thought I would be doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu in my free time, but turns out I am.鈥� There are numerous clubs and organizations, and 鈥測ou鈥檙e sure to find something you like no matter how specific your interest,鈥� whether it鈥檚 photography, anime, sports, or music. The Student Center often plays host to activities, 鈥渓ike cultural nights and volunteer drives,鈥� as well as 鈥渁wesome affordable off-campus activities like trips to [New York City], hikes, and local outdoor venues.鈥� For unstructured fun, 鈥渁 lot of people hang out in the quad, go to the gym, or use the dorm lounges to play pool or just spend time with other people in the building.鈥� A large portion of students are commuters, and the university 鈥渉as a lot of events and things and spaces for commuters to go and stay while waiting for classes.鈥� Life at Montclair State 鈥渕oves at a fast but exciting pace,鈥� and students say that on most days the 鈥渃ampus buzzes with classes, club meetings, and study sessions in every corner of the library.鈥�
