Mount Holyoke College delivers 鈥渆ndless chances for students to get involved in both the school and the outer community, while learning from top professors who genuinely care about their students.鈥� Students appreciate the 鈥渕otivated and motivating faculty鈥� that provide self-directed, interdisciplinary experiences. One student explains: 鈥淐lasses often allow you to use your creativity with projects鈥�I wrote a paper about Mattel鈥檚 Monster High generations and how it reflects the intersections between capitalism, children鈥檚 media, and moral panics.鈥� One environmental science student appreciates that 鈥渢he last month of the course was dedicated to our own independent research project鈥� in the community. Students further highlight instructors that 鈥渁re always open for personal connections and incredibly supportive鈥� of individualized projects. 鈥淚 have created zines, podcasts, and video interviews for final projects before,鈥� explains one Mount Holyoke attendee. Students agree that one of Mount Holyoke鈥檚 strengths is the support given to students, whether for academics, mental health, or accommodations. Mount Holyoke is 鈥済enuinely very caring of student success.鈥� Such accommodations may include self-scheduled exams, which are 鈥渋nnovative because they are also student-run and give the students taking finals freedom鈥� to determine their study needs and the best time and setting for testing. Another student also points to Mount Holyoke鈥檚 鈥渄evotion to gender minorities, especially in STEM鈥� as one of the school鈥檚 distinguishing characteristics. In short, 鈥淢ount Holyoke鈥檚 greatest strengths lie in its inclusive and supportive community, rigorous academics, and strong commitment to student care.鈥�

As a gender-diverse women鈥檚 college, Mount Holyoke 鈥渨elcomes applications from female, transgender, and non-binary students.鈥� Many students feel that 鈥渢his creates an empowering and inclusive environment.鈥� This means students feel comfortable sharing 鈥渁 LOT of personality. There is no 鈥榦ne鈥� Mount Holyoke student; there is so much acceptance and inclusivity that there is no leaning into stereotypes/norms; everyone is free to do and be (express) who they want to be.鈥� Mount Holyoke students also value that 鈥渢here are many students of differing genders, and along with that, different presentations of gender.鈥� One student jokes, 鈥淓verybody is some form of queer, and it鈥檚 great.鈥� Others further appreciate that diversity at Mount Holyoke features students who 鈥渃ome from many states, countries, economic backgrounds, home lives, and academic interests. In class, students are engaged in course content and establish strong connections with their professors. Outside of class, they are engaged in clubs and extracurricular activities.鈥� One student sums up Mount Holyoke students best, saying: 鈥淢y peers are thoughtful, open-minded, and respectful of different identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences, which creates a campus environment where students feel safe being themselves.鈥�

Warmer months see students 鈥渟pending time on the green in the sun,鈥� while winters find students 鈥渄own by the lake. It鈥檚 really pretty when it snows.鈥� Students also love the 鈥渧ery welcoming and very homey鈥� vibe they find indoors. 鈥淭he amount of students who live in single rooms is astounding!鈥� says one student. Dining options are 鈥渁lso phenomenal鈥� and 鈥渧ery accommodating to all diets.鈥� Students particularly enjoy that the library 鈥渙n campus is absolutely beautiful,鈥� and 鈥渢here are often local vendors or college-sponsored events on the green.鈥� Popular events include 鈥渇ilm screenings, workshops, craft nights, guest lectures, concerts, plays, and celebrations.鈥� There are numerous clubs to join for just about any interest you have, from knitting to Model UN, and 鈥渢he sports clubs (in my case, soccer and volleyball) are a lot of fun.鈥� Musical clubs and campus radio are other favorite pastimes. 鈥淗osting a show and listening to others is a great way to connect with others around campus,鈥� says one Mount Holyoke student. 鈥淭he school holds events on weekends till midnight that are alcohol free that are also very popular.鈥� Parties occur, but mostly 鈥渙n the weekends and they aren鈥檛 huge. But the school for sure has a strong social atmosphere.鈥�

The Career Development Center at Mount Holyoke College offers walk-in sessions, r茅sum茅 and job search tools, and self-assessments, as well as career fairs and networking events. Ninety-four percent of students are employed, continuing school, or participating in an internship within six months of graduation. Additionally, the Lynk curriculum-to-career program includes funding for every student wishing to do a qualified internship or take part in research opportunities. The program also encourages undergraduates to seek out practical applications unique to their course of study with skills workshops and industry site tours. Mount Holyoke鈥檚 鈥渉elpful alum network鈥� is an excellent connection for internships and job opportunities, as well as career-path inspiration. One student sums it up by sharing, 鈥淢HC produces global leaders. I see graduates moving on to really interesting jobs and careers.鈥� Of the students surveyed on PayScale.com, 59 percent perceived their job as having a meaningful impact on society; the reported median starting salary was $62,700.
