Students who pursue their education at North Carolina State University will find a 鈥渧ery welcoming鈥� environment, one filled with a variety of 鈥減rograms to help you succeed.鈥� The university offers 鈥渟trong academics鈥� across a wide range of disciplines, 鈥渇rom the highly ranked engineering school to the textiles school to the life sciences school.鈥� Undergrads also benefit from coursework that emphasizes 鈥渞esearch opportunities,鈥� 鈥渃reative projects,鈥� and 鈥渞eal life applications.鈥� For example, 鈥渢he NC State civil engineering department has a cool driving simulator that they use to test out new interchange designs.鈥� And the business school offers 鈥渆ntrepreneurship initiatives鈥�that help students turn ideas into real startups.鈥� By and large, undergrads also give their professors high marks, noting that they typically 鈥減rioritize communication with students and are easily accessible outside of class.鈥� Students also emphasize that it鈥檚 easy to find help should you need it. As this undergrad elaborates, 鈥淲e have a free tutoring program鈥�free therapy, and there [are] so many different places to study and decompress!鈥� Overall, 鈥渢he academic experience feels challenging but super rewarding.鈥�

Life at North Carolina State is 鈥渁 good mix of busy and fun鈥� where 鈥減eople spend a lot of time studying or working on projects during the week, but there鈥檚 always something social happening too.鈥� Just strolling around, you鈥檙e likely to see 鈥渟kateboarders practicing tricks [or] people making art on the free expression tunnel.鈥� That鈥檚 why some students have expressed concern about current construction, which has made the campus 鈥渄ifficult to navigate.鈥� Importantly, athletics are quite big, and you鈥檒l frequently find students heading 鈥渢o Carmichael gym, playing intramural sports, [or] attending NCSU athletic events.鈥� One undergrad explains, 鈥淓veryone tries to get student tickets to football and men鈥檚 basketball games, and our women鈥檚 basketball team and our men鈥檚 soccer teams are also very popular.鈥� Additionally, students highlight the wonderful Wellness and Recreation Department, which 鈥渙rganizes all sorts of things, including backpacking trips and spring break trips.鈥� Of course, you don鈥檛 need to be sporty or outdoorsy to get involved; the university offers a range of clubs catering to a wide variety of interests: 鈥淲e have a great many, from Ballroom Dancing, to Beekeeping, to App Development鈥�and political clubs. [There鈥檚 even a] club dedicated to giving out flowers to student passersby.鈥� When the weekend rolls around, lots of 鈥減eople go to the frats or bars, or to different schools to see their friends.鈥� Rest assured that 鈥渢here鈥檚 always something going on, so it鈥檚 easy to find stuff that fits your vibe.鈥�

Students at NC State work hard in order to be prepared for their future careers, and most feel that the school prepares them very well for life after college. The Career Development Center offers one-on-one academic advising and career planning; job and internship search resources; career fairs and on-campus recruiting in many different fields; and help with resume building, job interviews, and other professional skills. The school emphasizes experiential learning opportunities with their platform ePACK, a digital forum for jobs, internships, Pre-Health training, or co-ops (Cooperative Education). The co-ops allow students to pursue paid work in their field as undergraduates while building credentials that can lead to full-time career positions or graduate degrees.
