Black Pinpoint 525 South Main Street | Ada, OH | 45810

01. Overview

What the school is known for:

At Ohio Northern University, incoming undergraduates benefit from the school鈥檚 first-year curriculum seminars. Available in most areas of study, the program offers regular one-on-one time with professors and encourages opportunities for collaborative education while even presenting some of the faculty鈥檚 own research in the field. The seminars help forge a bond between the students and the 鈥渞enowned faculty鈥 at ONU, who are 鈥渁lways available to help,鈥 鈥渧ery friendly and down to earth,鈥 and 鈥渁re outstanding and all influential in their field.鈥 ONU offers five colleges with a variety of programs, including 鈥渁 great political science program [that] has sent many students to graduate school and politics,鈥 with 95% finding placement within six months of graduation. Students also point out that the 鈥渁ccounting program is highly ranked鈥 and 鈥渢he engineering college is great.鈥 One of the biggest draws is the university鈥檚 Raabe College of Pharmacy, a 鈥減restigious鈥 educational track that 鈥渋s focused on developing the next generation of clinical pharmacists who are well-rounded leaders, clinicians, and members of society.鈥 It offers direct entry into pharmaceutical careers with patient experiences available in the first year of study. The programs and opportunities offered at ONU add up to 鈥渁 top-notch education.鈥 As one student remarks, ONU鈥檚 鈥渃lasses are tough, no doubt about it,鈥 but 鈥渕y overall academic experience has been above and beyond anything I could鈥檝e expected.鈥

06. Student Body

What students say:

One of the great attributes of being an ONU Polar Bear is that 鈥渆veryone is very caring toward each other,鈥 and their fellow undergrads are 鈥渁lways willing to help [out] or mentor younger students.鈥 The typical ONU student 鈥渋s committed to academics, to service, and has leadership potential,鈥 students appreciate that 鈥渆veryone here finds a supportive group of friends.鈥 Many students are Midwestern and 鈥渟ome denomination of Christian,鈥 with a majority of ONU鈥檚 population hailing from 鈥渋n-state, some surrounding states, and internationals.鈥 The general vibe at ONU is: 鈥淧eople here are very relaxed鈥攜ou do what you want, and everyone is fine with you being who you are.鈥

08. Campus Life

What students say:

Ohio Northern University believes finding a good balance is the key to a great student experience. So, while there are 鈥渟tudents who spend all of their time focused on school,鈥 there鈥檚 also a 鈥済ood number of students who enjoy having a good time and hanging out with friends.鈥 ONU鈥檚 200 student-led organizations plus programs in music, athletics, and Greek life provide ample opportunities to help undergrads and graduates help discover and develop personal interests. In fact, 82% of enrollees take part in student organizations, and 22% are involved in sports. As one undergrad explains, 鈥淢ost students are friends with other people in the same activities that they鈥檙e involved in, so join something you鈥檙e interested in and don鈥檛 be shy!鈥 The campus, located in the town of Ada, provides 鈥渁 family-like atmosphere鈥 and a more communal feel. 鈥淏ecause we are in a small town, the students bond together to find fun things to do,鈥 such as 鈥減ick-up sports games,鈥 鈥渇raternity house parties and local bars (The Cask Room),鈥 as well as 鈥渟everal university-sponsored events throughout the year.鈥 Students like to combine socializing and working: 鈥淧eople love hanging out with each other, especially when they are trying to get things done.鈥
