A 鈥渟mall鈥� Catholic college in Rhode Island, Providence College offers students a 鈥渟trong鈥� liberal arts curriculum and a 鈥渇un and flourishing social environment.鈥� Academically, many undergrads point to Providence鈥檚 鈥淲estern Civilization program鈥� as a highlight of their collegiate experience. This interdisciplinary series exposes students to art, literature, philosophy, and theology and shapes undergrads into 鈥渨ell-rounded and deep thinkers.鈥� Students are also quick to highlight Providence鈥檚 鈥渟trong business school鈥� as well. And they certainly appreciate that they are 鈥渢aught to think on our feet and to apply what we have learned in the classroom to real life situations.鈥� 鈥淪mall classes鈥� are another hallmark of a Providence education. In turn, this enables students to develop 鈥済reat relationships鈥� with their professors. And speaking of professors, undergrads here happily report that their teachers are 鈥減henomenal.鈥� Not only are they 鈥渆xtremely knowledgeable,鈥� they also 鈥渉ave a real passion for teaching.鈥� As one thankful student boasts, 鈥淢y professors have met with me on the weekends, over the summer, and responded to text messages/emails/phone calls. We have gone off campus just to chat and keep up to date on how things are going.鈥� Indeed, these professors might just be Providence鈥檚 鈥渂iggest asset.鈥�

Students at Providence attest that the college is 鈥渧ery homogenous in regard to race and socioeconomic status,鈥� noting that most undergrads are 鈥渨hite鈥� and come from 鈥渦pper middle class families.鈥� Additionally, a large percentage hail from 鈥淣ew England, New York, [or] New Jersey.鈥� And many don 鈥減reppy鈥� clothing; you frequently 鈥渟ee backwards hats, Vineyard Vines, Patagonia, and bean boots or boat shoes.鈥� Thankfully, Providence has grown 鈥渋ncreasingly diverse鈥� in the last few years. On top of that, undergrads gush that their peers are 鈥済enuinely nice鈥� and quite 鈥渋nclusive鈥� regardless of background. Students are also quite impressed with how 鈥減olite鈥� everyone seems to be. As one undergrad explains, 鈥淒oors are held, everyone thanks the professor after class, people say hello as you walk by鈥攊t鈥檚 phenomenal!鈥� Moreover, as a Catholic institution, you do find 鈥渒ids who take their faith seriously.鈥� However, 鈥測ou do not need to be religious to feel welcomed here.鈥� Indeed, 鈥渢he college preaches about the Friar Family which the students are supposed to embody. When I first started here, I thought that this motto was quite ludicrous, but it honestly seems as though it is true. The way everyone acts is just so kind toward one another. The students here really do treat everyone like family.鈥�

Life at Providence can aptly be described as a 鈥渨hirlwind.鈥� This is due to the myriad of 鈥渞ecreational activities,鈥� 鈥渟chool sponsored trips,鈥� and 鈥減rogrammed nights鈥� the college offers. Additionally, school spirit abounds and students are 鈥渧ery enthusiastic鈥� about attending sporting events, 鈥渆specially men鈥檚 basketball and hockey.鈥� Students do admit that 鈥減artying is a pretty large part of the social life.鈥� And on the weekends you鈥檒l find that lots of people 鈥済o out, either to bars/clubs or senior off-campus housing.鈥� One student shares, 鈥淧eople will sit out on the quad on nice sunny days and play catch. We have many activities such as dances and cookouts that the school holds year round.鈥� Moreover, there are 鈥渢wo concerts each year where [basically] the entire school attends.鈥� Many individuals are also 鈥渉ighly involved in intramural sports鈥� as well as clubs 鈥渁ligning with social, political and relig[ious] interests.鈥� Of course, students here love exploring the city of Providence too, 鈥渨hich is a short car ride or public bus trip [away].鈥� And undergrads 鈥渃an [check out] activities around Brown University/Thayer Street, as well as DownCity where there are many shops and a large artistic influence.鈥�

Providence College prioritizes making sure its students are career-ready with programs like the Friar Four Career Core, which teaches everything from salary negotiation and budgeting to personal branding and data fluency. Most importantly, it works to help students find their purpose and calling. Real-world work experience is encouraged and according to the college, 95% of 2020 graduates participated in an internship or career experience during their college years. The Center for Career Education and Professional Development provides 鈥渁 multitude of opportunities to help find careers after you graduate鈥� and assists undergraduates with job searches, career fairs, and Microsoft certification, with additional networking through the FriarLink alumni network platform. All this career preparation pays off. According to the college, 88% of the 2020 graduates were either employed or in graduate school within six months. And Providence College graduates are earning competitive salaries with an early-career median salary of $63,500, as reported by Payscale.com.
