Rollins College emphasizes 鈥渃ommunity engagement鈥� and 鈥渉ands-on experience,鈥� giving students the chance to apply what they learn in the classroom. In particular, one student reports 鈥渢ackling real-world projects鈥� in their human resources course: 鈥淲e provided evidence-based solutions...to the company鈥檚 HR for a chance for our recommendations to be implemented state and nationwide.鈥� Similarly, one student studying business had the chance 鈥渢o do real PR work鈥� for a local nonprofit. Weekend and Spring Break Community Engagement trips are free or heavily subsidized, and offer immersive experiences, such as 鈥渁 service-based learning experience in Tampa focused on the shelter system.鈥� Students also have ample opportunities to study abroad. One student reports that it鈥檚 鈥渃ost-effective to study abroad because your scholarships travel with you and there are lots of options for long and short-term programs.鈥� Both on- and off-campus, professors at Rollins 鈥渁re absolutely life-changing.鈥� One student recounts: 鈥淢y professors are incredible and truly aim to have their students succeed and actually take something away from the lecture that can be applicable to their day-to-day lives.鈥� The small class sizes 鈥渇eel more personal, and you鈥檙e able to connect to the professor.鈥� Another student agrees: 鈥淢y favorite professors are those who don鈥檛 just teach us facts. I have found the most joy from the professors who teach me about life!鈥� Overall, Rollins鈥� community-engaged coursework and vibrant instructors motivate students to complete their education 鈥渨ith determination and pride.鈥�

Students are impressed by the 鈥渄rive and determination鈥� of their peers, describing them as 鈥渕otivated, ambitious, and focused on success, not just academically, but in everything they do.鈥� The school鈥檚 small size makes 鈥渢he creation of lasting relationships鈥� easy. 鈥淵ou will always see a familiar face or two when walking to class.鈥� Across the board, 鈥減eople are genuinely nice...I鈥檓 not sure if it is the beautiful campus or just the people a small liberal arts college attracts, but it definitely feels like a community.鈥� The student body particularly values the school鈥檚 鈥渃ommitment to progressive ideals.鈥� Tars note that the student population is 鈥渕ostly women, [and] mostly white,鈥� while at the same time a 鈥渕elting pot of cultures.鈥� Shares one Tar: 鈥淵ou meet a lot of international people, which is quite cool since you get a lot of different insights.鈥� In general, everyone wants 鈥渢o push themselves and grow. Being surrounded by students who care that much about their goals is inspiring. It creates an environment where we support each other while also challenging one another to be our very best.鈥�

When Rollins students aren鈥檛 in class, they can be found 鈥渙ut and about on campus.鈥� Mills Lawn is a popular spot for studying, picnics, and playing games, while 鈥渢he lake on campus is a place you can go paddleboarding or kayaking.鈥� With its beautiful campus and sunny weather, Rollins students like to 鈥渟pend time outside, whether it be playing sports or just chilling by the lake.鈥� One treasured campus tradition is Fox Day, a surprise in the spring when the president decides it is 鈥渢oo pretty for class鈥� and cancels classes for undergraduates, providing the perfect opportunity to 鈥減lay games on our lawn鈥� or go 鈥渢o the pool.鈥� Tars, as Rollins students are affectionately known, looking for community can find it in recreational fitness classes (鈥渂arre, yoga, bodyworks, pilates, Zumba鈥�) or performing arts spaces. One student explains that 鈥淲henever I need a laugh, a cry, or just to escape for a little bit, I know the improv team is going to give me that.鈥� The 鈥淕reek community is flourishing鈥� as well, shares one student: 鈥淚鈥檝e not only enjoyed the experience as a member of my chapter, but I鈥檝e also made many friends in other chapters along the way.鈥� Whether Tars connect through classes, Greek life, or extracurriculars, they love 鈥渉anging out with friends around the beautiful campus.鈥�
