A Rutgers education delivers 鈥渙pportunities around every corner.鈥� After all, it鈥檚 a 鈥渄iverse university in all aspects of the word鈥攁cademically, culturally, politically, ethnically, linguistically, and socially.鈥� And from the School of Engineering to the Mason Gross School of the Arts, undergraduates have the ability to 鈥減ursue anything they鈥檙e interested in.鈥� Since it is known as a research university, it鈥檚 quite common for undergraduates 鈥渢o conduct research and work with professors in any number of fields.鈥� They even have opportunities to present their work, like at the annual Aresty Undergraduate Research Symposium. When it comes to the classroom, most courses are taught in a lecture format. However, electives tend to be 鈥渕uch smaller and thus much more open to discussion and student presentation.鈥� As at most schools, you鈥檒l find a mix of 鈥済reat professors, average professors, and bad professors.鈥� However, most students insist that the vast majority of professors are 鈥渋ntelligent people who have a lot of information to share and a lot of experience that allows them to elaborate on many topics.鈥� And the best of these instructors are 鈥渆xperienced, intelligent, and helpful,鈥� as well as 鈥渄iverse, accessible, proactive...and interested in students who take initiative.鈥� These educators know how to make learning 鈥渆njoyable and informative.鈥�

Sure, at first glance it might seem like the average Rutgers student hails from New Jersey. It is a state school after all. And while you will meet plenty of Jersey locals, undergrads offer assurances that 鈥淩utgers is truly a melting pot of people from all over the world, of all different backgrounds with different interests.鈥� Given that the student body includes people from over 130 countries and more than 60% of students identify as a person of color, that sentiment seems to bear out. Students share that 鈥渘o matter what you鈥檙e interested in, there is a group of students here who share the same exact interests. It鈥檚 really easy to find your own niche.鈥� While Rutgers students are united in their 鈥渄edication to academics and community service鈥� and 鈥渁re serious about their work and studying,鈥� students stress that their peers also 鈥渒now how to party and have fun.鈥� Moreover, they鈥檙e quick to note that their classmates are 鈥渧ery friendly, funny, and nice.鈥� Perhaps best of all, with a campus of over 40,000 students, 鈥淚t is not uncommon to meet someone new weekly... With so many students here, everyone is able to find someone to befriend and interact with.鈥�

Rutgers students report that 鈥渢here鈥檚 rarely a dull moment鈥� on campus. Indeed, you can 鈥渁lways [find] something going on,鈥� whether it鈥檚 鈥渕ovie screenings, arcade games at the RutgersZone, performing arts, local theaters, university-sponsored concerts, free food events, community service days, [or] Greek life.鈥� The university offers more than 500 academic, service, social, and athletic clubs, so you鈥檙e bound to find an organization that strikes your fancy. There鈥檚 even an annual Involvement Fair every fall, making it easy to meet student leaders and explore what鈥檚 available. Undergrads also enjoy Late Knights, twice monthly late-night programming that ranges from trivia to open mics. Additionally, they love to support their more athletically inclined classmates. As one undergrad shares, 鈥淒uring football season...everyone can be found cheering in the student section at the games.鈥� When the weekend rolls around, it鈥檚 not uncommon to find students socializing, whether on campus or at the local bars. Undergrads report that they generally feel safe, highlighting the fact that the school 鈥渟ends out (campus) police to patrol around the campus twenty-four hours to ensure student safety.鈥� Finally, for those who want to explore life beyond campus, New York City and Philadelphia are both an easy bus or train ride away.

Employment opportunities are plentiful for both Rutgers students and alums. Of course, this should probably be expected. After all, a Middle Eastern studies major emphatically tells us that, 鈥淐areer Services is awesome.鈥� And many undergrads are able to land 鈥渁mazing internships.鈥� One thrilled journalism major confirms this stating, 鈥淚 work at NBC in 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and will continue my internship for my last semester.鈥� Numerous students attribute this success to Career Service's robust internship and co-op program. Beyond internships, the office also hosts a massive fall career fair featuring over 250 companies from a variety of industries as well as government and nonprofit organizations. And undergrads are also privy to a bevy of career events鈥攊ncluding everything from drop-in resume clinics to sixty-minute job search boot camps. Finally, prospective (and current!) students should be pleased to discover that, according to PayScale. com, the average starting salary for a Rutgers alum is $58,900.
