Scripps College has an 鈥渁bsolutely gorgeous鈥� campus and terrific Southern California vibes, but the reason applicants clamor to attend is because of its 鈥渄edication to empowering female voices and education.鈥� The focus may be on its 鈥渟upportive, small community of women who want to fight to make the world a better place,鈥� but students won鈥檛 have to worry about missing out on the resources often attributed to larger institutions, as Scripps is part of The Claremont Colleges, a consortium that grants undergraduates access 鈥渢o all of the benefits and resources within [four] other colleges.鈥� Access is key across the 鈥渃hallenging and engaging鈥� academic offerings at Scripps, whether that鈥檚 one-on-one time with professors or simply having opportunity for undergraduate research. This extends to 鈥渄iscussion-based [classes], which allows students to raise questions..., [gain] a better understanding of the course, and connect to the subject more intimately.鈥� It helps, too, that professors 鈥渁re very good at creating interesting courses,鈥� and are 鈥済enerally accepting of a wide range of student opinions,鈥� though students should be aware that these freedoms come with 鈥渉igh expectations.鈥� Ultimately, what undergrads appreciate the most is that it鈥檚 鈥渧ery easy to form close connections with professors both in class and out of class.鈥�

When asked to describe their peers, Scripps undergrads are prone to using effusive adjectives such as 鈥減assionate, driven, [and] creative.鈥� Many students also 鈥渋dentify as liberal, feminist, [and] social-justice oriented.鈥� As one individual explains, 鈥淔rom reproductive rights, prison abolition, racial justice, everyone you talk to has the desire to change the world.鈥� Indeed, they are certainly 鈥渘ot afraid to let their voices be heard.鈥� A number of undergrads appreciate that the college attracts 鈥渕any transgender and non-binary students, which creates a very open and safe environment.鈥� However, a few do caution that there is a little 鈥渢ension between white feminism and intersectionality鈥� on campus. Fortunately, most everyone enjoys the fact their classmates are often 鈥渋ntelligent and ready to have in-depth conversations about topics from politics to The Bachelor to data on climate change.鈥� Undergrads here also tend to be 鈥渧ery supportive of one another鈥� and 鈥渧ery accepting鈥� as well. In fact, when strolling through campus, it鈥檚 even common to 鈥渞eceive smiles from students [you] don鈥檛 know.鈥� All in all, the Scripps student body offers the 鈥渢ype of community that will cheer with and for you when you succeed and be a shoulder to cry on when needed.鈥�

Scripps students are fairly studious, and during the week you鈥檒l often find them congregating in one of the 鈥渕any outdoor study spaces, such as courtyards, lawns, or the lounge chairs by the pool.鈥� Of course, there鈥檚 lots of fun to be had beyond academics. For example, undergrads can participate in 鈥渁 ton of free fitness courses on campus like CrossFit, yoga, and Zumba鈥� as well as unique 鈥渋ntramural sports like inner-tube water polo.鈥� Additionally, 鈥渢here are hundreds of clubs to join that are both specific to Scripps and also across all The Claremont Colleges鈥� as well as school-sponsored 鈥渟peakers, screenings, presentations, workshops, [and] de-stress activities.鈥� Should you need a respite from that overflowing campus life, the surrounding area provides many options. 鈥淭he train to downtown Los Angeles is about a 10-minute walk away, Mt. Baldy is about a 20-minute drive, and the village in Claremont is filled with shops and eateries.鈥�

The Career Planning & Resources (CP&R) office works with Scripps students to explore their career paths, beginning with personalized freshman orientations and culminating with virtual hiring fairs, access to the Handshake platform, and the digitally showcased Resume Book that connects employers with job-seeking seniors. CP&R programming prepares students for the workforce by way of the coaching-intensive Emerging Professionals, off-campus Career Exploration treks, and internship grants. Eighty-five percent of undergraduates participate in at least one internship prior to commencement, with twenty-five percent completing three or more. Aided by annual donations, Scripps awards financial support for unpaid internships at an average of $3,500 per student. Scripps graduates regularly receive prestigious fellowships and grants as well, like the Fulbright and Watson Fellowship, to continue their studies or research, and roughly two-thirds of Scripps alumni complete a graduate or professional degree within five years. Scripps graduates surveyed at PayScale.com reported a median starting salary of $66,400, and 47 percent felt their work was making a meaningful impact.
