Students praise the academic process, which is filled with 鈥渇un and interesting courses,鈥� and which places students in 鈥渁 close-knit community of the intellectually elite.鈥� This mid-size private university provides 鈥渁 wealth of academic resources...[and] a flood of opportunities for those who want them,鈥� allowing SMU to lead the way for the Dallas-Fort Worth area in developing innovative industries and initiatives in semiconductors, biotechnology, clean energy, precision medicine, and AI. Students find their coursework to be synced 鈥渢o what you鈥檒l face in the real world,鈥� aided no doubt by the fact that many professors are 鈥渋ncredibly gifted in their fields鈥� and have real-world experience in the subjects they teach. They鈥檙e also described as 鈥渆xceptional communicators鈥� who 鈥渓ove interacting with students,鈥� all of which allows them to better 鈥渙ffer real-life connections to the material we learn.鈥� As one enrollee puts it, professors 鈥渁re willing to put in extra time to convey the material鈥� and 鈥渨ill change their schedule to accommodate people.鈥� The 鈥渋ncredible alumni support鈥� at SMU provides excellent connections into the business world (among others), and three 鈥渄edicated career services centers鈥� help students find a job to further their career path. Since many attend the university for the Cox School of Business, internship seekers and graduating students who want to stay in Dallas will appreciate that the school is ideally located 鈥渢o secure great jobs with Fortune 500 companies right here in Dallas.鈥� The school鈥檚 administration also 鈥渦nderstands that studying abroad, internships, extracurriculars, etc., also play a crucial role in developing students into the adults and professionals they want to become.鈥�

On the whole, the student body is 鈥渉appy and leads a balanced life.鈥� Some students at SMU 鈥渢end to be a bit preppy,鈥� polite, and come from 鈥渋nfluential backgrounds,鈥� although plenty of students 鈥渨ork a lot for pay or do internships.鈥� SMU students 鈥渁re very busy people, and they prefer it that way,鈥� says one student. These 鈥渕otivated, outgoing,鈥� people 鈥渢hrive on leadership鈥� and are 鈥渄edicated to academics and involvement, both at SMU and in the greater community.鈥�

There鈥檚 no shortage of things to do at and around SMU. Students will find everything from foosball matches in Klyde Warren Park, SMU football games, and 鈥渂oulevarding鈥� (鈥渂asically tailgating but on steroids鈥�) to the 鈥渁mazing arts and restaurant scene around campus,鈥� the 鈥渇ine dining and dancing鈥� in uptown Dallas, and the museums in the Dallas Arts District, which are common destinations for walking tours. A large portion of every SMU student鈥檚 time is devoted to their studies (and preparing for their careers) and many are 鈥渄efinitely wanting to become leaders in their field or profession.鈥� Students take their academics seriously, but they also value socializing and have a 鈥渧ibrant social life.鈥� One student notes that 鈥淭here is always a social event every weekend night to blow off steam.鈥� And although some students describe wanting 鈥渓ess emphasis on Greek life,鈥� they do acknowledge there are plenty of extracurricular organizations at SMU and that students 鈥渁re involved...and have fun a lot.鈥�
