With its small campus, Geneseo is a 鈥渢ightly knit community鈥� of 鈥渋ntelligent and kind individuals鈥� where 鈥渁ll members support each other.鈥� Students value the 鈥渟trong sense of community鈥� and say all types of people can be found at Geneseo, although some do claim that their peers are 鈥渕ostly white,鈥� however, students come from 鈥渧ery different upbringings and are from different social classes.鈥� One student describes her friends as a mix of 鈥渟ome quiet, some outgoing, some party-animals, and some bookworms.鈥� Regardless of this broad range, almost everyone is there to 鈥渞eceive a higher education and be successful.鈥� Campus culture is generally liberal, featuring 鈥渋nclusivity involving ethnicity, religion, and sexuality,鈥� but some describe social life as cliquey, noting 鈥渋t is much harder to make friends if you are not in Greek life.鈥� On a final note, one student reassures us, 鈥渙nce you find your people, you will feel right at home.鈥�

At Geneseo, which sits on a 鈥済orgeous campus [with] beautiful sunsets,鈥� students 鈥渇ocus on their academics,鈥� but they also make time for clubs or athletics-hockey games in particular bring out school spirit. In addition to team sports, undergrads stay active by 鈥済oing to the gym or various classes offered by [the] school such as spin, yoga, or Zumba.鈥� On warm days, students love to 鈥渉ang out and do work on the quad, put up a hammock between two trees, or throw a Frisbee around...with friends.鈥� Fraternity/sorority life is a big part of the Geneseo experience for some students, as are college sponsored events by the organization Geneseo Late Knight, which 鈥減uts on events every single weekend that are free for students.鈥� The weekends are also when 鈥渟tudents definitely like to party,鈥� and they spend time at nearby bars. For those looking to get outside, the 鈥渟cenery of the Geneseo area鈥� has much more to offer: Students mention it鈥檚 also great for hiking. Despite this, they note that 鈥渢he town around us is small so there鈥檚 not a lot to do,鈥� which makes trips to Rochester popular: 鈥渋t鈥檚 a short drive away鈥� and reachable via a bus shuttle on the weekends.
