Founded in 1948, Stonehill College is located an hour鈥檚 drive south of Boston and prides itself on a fresh approach to the intersection of education and faith. Offering programs that span everything from Arts to Business to STEM, the Roman Catholic Liberal Arts school is known for its 鈥渟trong academics鈥� and tailored approach to education. Students have the opportunity to complete an independent major or minor 鈥渨here you can create your own degree from scratch,鈥� as well as participate in IDEAS (Integrating Democratic Education at Stonehill). This 鈥渆xperience central and only available at Stonehill鈥� is 鈥渁 program through which students can apply to design their own 1-credit, multimodal, discussion-based courses, and then teach them to their peers.鈥� Indeed, Stonehill鈥檚 鈥渁cademics are challenging but those who work hard are successful,鈥� and the institution is known for 鈥渉elping students reach their full potential academically and guiding [them] toward what [they] might want in [their] future.鈥� When it comes to the professors, students 鈥渃annot speak highly enough about the faculty,鈥� with many seeing the academic instruction as 鈥渢he most compelling strength at Stonehill.鈥� Professors are 鈥減assionate about their subject matter鈥� and 鈥渕ake learning interesting and engaging,鈥� which helps to 鈥渢ransfer that passion to their students.鈥� Some undergrads note the use of adjunct professors for smaller majors, with one student expressing, 鈥淎s an education major, I have only had two professors over the course of three years that have been full time.鈥� In spite of this, students report building strong relationships with faculty members, using these connections 鈥渁s a resource as well as a way to make learning better and more meaningful.鈥� As one enrollee puts it, 鈥淚 feel like I have learned the most in my entire life in my four years at Stonehill.鈥�

The students on campus are by far the friendliest, most welcoming, kind, and caring people I know, says one enrollee. Many agree, describing their peers as 鈥渞espectful of each other鈥� and the thing that 鈥渢ruly [makes] Stonehill a great place to be.鈥� United in their values, the student body is 鈥渂uilt on a structure of community rather than looking out for yourself.鈥� Just walking around, you鈥檙e 鈥渃onstantly seeing friendly faces around the close-knit campus,鈥� and it鈥檚 clear that people are 鈥渉ave a sense of curiosity that sets them apart.鈥� While some report that 鈥渢he school significantly lacks diversity,鈥� others feel that the community is 鈥渉eading in a more diverse direction.鈥� Regardless of your background, rest assured that 鈥渁 large portion of the student body...works to foster inclusive environments.鈥�

Outside of the classroom, students love 鈥渆njoy[ing] the beautiful campus.鈥� Staying active is a priority, with 鈥渁 lot of athletes that dominant most of the social life on campus.鈥� Many undergrads devote time to working out at the gym, and 鈥渁 majority of people are involved鈥� with a team. 鈥淭he intramural sports and club sports are also awesome to play in,鈥� one student notes. For those who prefer less formal activity, 鈥渕any go to socialize and play catch on the quad鈥� when the weather is nice. But there鈥檚 more to Stonehill activities beyond athletics. Undergrads can choose from a 鈥渨ide variety of clubs and societies to join.鈥� Clubs like the school newspaper are 鈥渨onderful and very informative鈥� and groups like 鈥減hysics and engineering club [do] a lot of really fun events like building solar panels from scratch.鈥� There are also 鈥渁 lot of programs out of the Office of Student Engagement, so there is always something to do on weekends and weekdays!鈥� Word is, their 鈥渇ood truck days on the quad with corn hole and other cookout games are awesome.鈥� In general, people love 鈥渏ust walking around campus鈥� or 鈥渉anging out with friends outside.鈥� By the time the weekend rolls around, 鈥渋f partying is your thing, then there鈥檚 definitely a party culture on campus.鈥� If not, there鈥檚 always a group that鈥檚 down to 鈥済o off campus for food鈥� or and 鈥済o for hikes on the weekends.鈥�

Undergrads at Stonehill love to brag about the college鈥檚 high job-placement rate. They often tout the 鈥渟trong connections (they鈥檙e able to form with) alumni and...professors,鈥� as these relationships frequently lead to internships and jobs. Students can also turn to the college鈥檚 Career Development Center, which takes an individualized approach to the job hunt and helps empower each undergraduate. The center also hosts numerous events that place students on the path to career success, such as the Think.Act.Lead. Planning Conference, which helps undergraduates learn about the career resources and experiences available at Stonehill and to set a plan in place. Perhaps the ultimate event is the annual Job and Internship Expo, which grants students access to dozens of top companies each year. Through the center, students can also arrange a semester-long full-time internship in the Boston area, with sites including Massachusetts General Hospital, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Department of Homeland Security.
