The Orange of Syracuse University love their school and want the world to know it. Those who brave the northern winters are rewarded with a choice of around 200 majors and 100 minors, and 鈥渢he distinct tracks students can take within each of the professional schools鈥� is one of the university鈥檚 greatest strengths. 鈥淭here is so much to do with your education and it can be as specific or broad as you would like,鈥� says one student. 鈥淚f you put in the work...it can make a world of a difference to your college experience.鈥� The school does a good job of being cohesive for its size, and 鈥渢here is a sense of connection between all years of study.鈥� Alumni form an 鈥渆verlasting network between Syracuse students鈥� and the school has a 鈥渂ig reach鈥� for a relatively tucked away school: 鈥淭here is somebody from Syracuse everywhere you look.鈥� On top of the alumni, the school provides 鈥渁mple amounts of resources in regard to finding jobs or applying to graduate programs,鈥� which 鈥渕akes looking for that next step easy and not so intimidating.鈥� Professors are 鈥渧ery intelligent and qualified individuals who have a strong base in what they teach,鈥� and are here 鈥渁s a tool to enhance your knowledge and to help in any way possible.鈥� In general education classes, professors are 鈥渁ttentive and aware that students of varying interests and backgrounds are enrolled in the 101-level class and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.鈥� They are 鈥渜uick to respond to emails,鈥� and 鈥渁lways open to meeting with you if you need help with anything, academic or personal.鈥� Professors typically 鈥渄o justice to both sides of various arguments鈥� and classroom discussions don鈥檛 feel biased.

School spirit 鈥渞uns rampant鈥� here, and this 鈥渆nergized鈥� group can be found 鈥渟eeking the fun out of every opportunity thrown at them.鈥� Syracuse is 鈥渘ot as diverse as a city school but still pretty diverse nonetheless,鈥� with most students hailing from the northeast. No matter their background, students 鈥渧ery quickly find a home鈥� whether it鈥檚 with a sports team, club, organization, or Greek life, and everyone is active in the community. There is 鈥渧ery little competition鈥� among this 鈥減ractical student body...that doesn鈥檛 take flack or do unnecessary work,鈥� and if there is any divide, it is between the driven students and those just here for a degree. Students 鈥渓ove to party, especially on game days, but also understand that they are here for academics.鈥�

The atmosphere of Syracuse is 鈥渁lways electric, with something going on at all times.鈥� Student life can revolve around athletics, and campus is 鈥渢he most fun place on the planet when the basketball team is doing well, but could be very dreary if they鈥檙e not and the weather is bad.鈥� Students are especially eager to don their orange apparel and 鈥渢ailgate until the wee hours,鈥� but they 鈥渁lways get studying done first.鈥� Greek life is popular for many students and 鈥渙nce the sun goes down, you will find a lot of the students all gathering at the fraternities and the bars on Marshall street,鈥� though 鈥楥use still offers alternative activities, including the Orange After Dark program, 鈥渂owling, shopping, whitewater rafting, day trips to NYC, [and] movie nights鈥� for students who have no interest in parties. The gym is always thumping: 鈥渋t鈥檚 a social thing here.鈥� As this is Central NY, life takes a little hit when winter comes, and indoor socializing is more prominent. 鈥淔loors become close鈥� and 鈥渕ovies and video games鈥� are popular distractions. Syracuse has been quick to respond to student feedback about food, and has renovated to offer more dining options and a more flexible meal plan. That said, students note that off-campus has plenty of dining options at Destiny USA (one of the country鈥檚 largest malls) and Armory Square.
