For many thrilled students, Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky feels 鈥渓ike home鈥� from the minute they set foot on campus. This is due in large part to its 鈥渟mall size,鈥� which allows 鈥淭ransy鈥� to maintain a very 鈥渟upportive鈥� environment. When it comes to academics, undergrads at Transylvania savor the breadth of courses that are available. And they rush to highlight the 鈥渋nclusive fine arts program,鈥� which lets non-majors still actively participate in 鈥渕usic or theatre.鈥� Many also note student success with graduate school, boasting of a 鈥�95 percent鈥� acceptance rate to medical school and a whopping 鈥�100 percent鈥� acceptance rate to law school. Much of this can be attributed to 鈥渞igorous鈥� classes that 鈥渞equire you to think deeply and critically.鈥� Transy鈥檚 鈥渂rilliant faculty鈥� is owed some credit as well. They are 鈥渉ighly dedicated鈥� instructors who continually demonstrate 鈥渋nterest...in [their] students鈥� lives and ambitions.鈥� Even better, 鈥渢hey all have open office hours multiple days a week and often will meet with students other times as well.鈥� And one incredulous student interjects, 鈥淚 am close enough with my professors to join them for department dinners or [non-alcoholic] drinks with guest lecturers. It is a one-of-a-kind situation that I wouldn鈥檛 trade for the world.鈥�

Transylvania manages to foster a 鈥渧ery safe and accepting鈥� atmosphere. Much of that can be attributed to the 鈥渋ncredibly welcoming and friendly鈥� student body. And though the university is set in Kentucky, we鈥檙e told you find a nice 鈥渕ix of classic south[ern] and northern attitudes.鈥� You鈥檙e also likely to discover both 鈥渓iberal鈥� and 鈥渃onservative鈥� students. Unfortunately, some undergrads do caution that Transylvania is 鈥渘ot very diverse.鈥� But many people insist that their peers 鈥渟eem willing and curious to learn about different cultures and perspectives.鈥� As one undergrad shares, 鈥淭he majority of students on campus are open-minded, creative people, and incredibly accepting of others no matter their gender, race, sexual/gender orientation, or socioeconomic status. They do not hesitate to band together to aid another student in need.鈥� Students also love that their peers are 鈥済oal oriented鈥� and 鈥渢ake their education seriously.鈥� They 鈥減ush to excel academically, socially, and athletically.鈥� And they all enjoy being 鈥渆xtremely involved on campus.鈥� Of course, the best aspect of Transy鈥檚 student body is the fact that 鈥渁nywhere you go you can always find a friend or at least some people that are easy to talk to.鈥�

It is pretty easy to lead a fun and robust life at Transylvania. While academics take top priority, there are also 鈥渕any opportunities to get involved on campus.鈥� For example, 鈥渢here are frequently guest speakers and movie nights that students can attend for fun and for class credit.鈥� The university hosts 鈥渁 lot of theater productions and music concerts鈥� as well. Most 鈥減eople are involved with school-affiliated organizations, like the school鈥檚 鈥渆nvironmental conservation group鈥� and the 鈥淪tudent Activities Board.鈥� Athletics are a big draw too and you can often find undergrads playing 鈥渧olleyball, basketball, soccer,鈥� and 鈥渋ntramurals.鈥� Those looking for instant community will be happy to hear that 鈥淕reek life is extremely popular.鈥� When students are itching to get a break from campus life, downtown Lexington offers a plethora of great options including 鈥渁 ton of neat places within walking distance, such as...the Central Bank Center, Triangle Park, the Mary Todd Lincoln House, and the Lexington Opera House.鈥� All in all, there鈥檚 鈥渟o much to do, and there鈥檚 always something new to discover.鈥�

Transylvania University's career development office works hard to connect students with positions that match their interests and abilities. Regardless of whether undergrads are looking to attend graduate school or join the workforce, this office will help them get to where they want to be. Students may receive individual counseling and get one-on-one assistance with crafting resumes and cover letters. They can also take advantage of 100 Doors to Success, a unique program that pairs current undergraduate with alums who are successful in a field of interest. These alums help mentor students and offer both connections and priceless industry insight.
