The University of Arizona is a public university that blends a deep history with innovative, cutting-edge research. The school offers its 40,000 undergraduates more than 150 majors spread across 20 colleges (and even more specialized schools within), and students 鈥渃an choose from a variety of majors and minors and structure your own studies鈥� in any way they see fit. The school highly emphasizes 鈥渃ommunicating with its students and keeping up to date with student life,鈥� a service that extends to graduates as well, thanks to a 鈥渟upportive and large alumni network.鈥� Current enrollees looking for additional support will find tons of resources, whether that鈥檚 free tutoring in most introductory level subjects or 鈥淪upplemental Instruction sessions, which are like bonus discussion sections if you want more practice.鈥� Professors here run the gamut in terms of passion and presentation, but for the most part, they 鈥渞eally [care] about the material; [have] funny, interesting, or engaging lectures; and [are] extremely willing to meet outside class.鈥� Some professors use a 鈥渇lipped classroom鈥� approach, 鈥渨hich really [helps] create an active learning environment,鈥� and the sciences offer lab-based classes with 鈥渕any hands-on activities that teach what presentations [alone] could not.鈥� Many professors 鈥渂ring in guest lectors or have guest presentations,鈥� and 鈥渃lassrooms are often set up in a manner in which group discussion is encouraged.鈥�

Around 60 percent of students hail from Arizona in this diverse population that is 鈥渧ery passionate about what it means to [be a] Wildcat and [the] excessive amounts of school pride鈥� that come with it. Amazing weather and a beautiful campus make for a happy, sunny time that is 鈥渇ull of life and fun.鈥� This is 鈥渁 very active community [that uses] the gyms regularly,鈥� though there鈥檚 plenty of exercise simply in traversing the sprawling campus via bike or foot. Arizona is 鈥渇ull of spirit鈥� and sporting events (especially football and basketball) are popular; students describe hanging out in the raucous 鈥淶onaZoo鈥� to show support for their teams. Thanks to the centralized Mall, it鈥檚 easy to find people to hang out with during the day, and clearly posted events speak to all types of nighttime entertainment, since 鈥淪ome people love to party, some people love to study.鈥� The campus 鈥渉as an extremely open, comfortable atmosphere,鈥� and because 鈥渟ome dorms cater to a certain audience with the in-hall communities,鈥� it鈥檚 remarkably easy to find your niche. The community feel is a real bonus for students, who love that 鈥渋t鈥檚 a massive university, yet everyone knows everyone.鈥�

An education from U of A can certainly be a stepping-stone to the career of your dreams. In fact, job placement is often heralded by students as one of the school鈥檚 strengths. To help, the university does a great job of fostering relationships with corporations and potential employers. As one student explains, 鈥淥ur Space X contract and our Gore contract are two strengths of the engineering side of U of A. [They] offer jobs and resources to 鈥� students.鈥� Of course, even if you鈥檙e not bound for a career in the sciences, undergrads benefit from a great Student Engagement & Career Development office, which hosts one big career fair every semester along with grad school fairs and employer mixers for a variety of industries. And beyond what鈥檚 offered by the career office, professors also often prove to be 鈥済reat mentors in terms of career advising.鈥�
