With its 鈥渁bundance of opportunities,鈥� the University of California鈥擨rvine delivers 鈥渁 quality education鈥� and the 鈥渃ritical thinking skills needed for life.鈥� In addition to career-building fairs and visiting speakers, the school also has 鈥渓ots of resources if you are struggling,鈥� and students note that because the Orange County location is 鈥渂ecoming a hotspot for companies,鈥� there are an increasing number of options for 鈥渞esearch, volunteer opportunities, and internships on and off-campus.鈥� All of this means that students 鈥渁re encouraged to explore different paths鈥� while also being supported with 鈥渢he counseling and information resources necessary so that informed decisions are the only kind of decisions we ever make.鈥� While teachers can be 鈥渉it or miss,鈥� most are described as 鈥済reat professors that make the class fun and enjoyable.鈥� These standout professors are 鈥渧ery informed and knowledgeable about what they鈥檙e teaching,鈥� and try to draw from their 鈥渆xperience outside the classroom researching and practicing their profession.鈥� There鈥檚 no one teaching style, so it really comes down to finding what works for you: 鈥渆ach lesson plan is specific to the professor鈥檚 personal strengths and beliefs, as well [as] what the class needs.鈥� Regardless of the approach or the topic, professors are said to try and make the content 鈥渁ppealing and are available outside of class during office hours or open to making appointments.鈥� Taken together, the combination of knowledgeable professors and 鈥渨ide range of resources鈥� is 鈥渕aking our lives very rich and colorful.鈥�

UC Irvine 鈥渋s very ethnically, religiously, and culturally diverse, and there is a large LGBTQ+ community,鈥� although students also say that it鈥檚 a very local school, where 鈥渕any students are from Orange County and knew each other prior to university.鈥� Either way, the 鈥渕any different backgrounds and perspectives come together on one campus, which makes conversations and group work more interesting.鈥� Students emphasize that though there鈥檚 a 鈥渕ix of both extroverted and introverted鈥� personalities, they鈥檙e overall 鈥渒ind and respectful people.鈥� While some students put in more time than others, most are 鈥渁ble to keep up with their assignments and take on a wide variety of activities,鈥� and some 鈥渆ven take it upon themselves to create groups to share reminders and helpful tips, [and] host study sessions.鈥� As one student describes the academic focus, 鈥渋t feels like more of a 鈥榳e want to succeed and we want you to succeed鈥� kind of way.鈥� That balance makes for a group of peers who are 鈥渙verall laid-back and able to balance school with fun.鈥�

鈥淎 diverse selection of clubs and inclusive campus-wide activities cater to individual interests鈥� at Irvine, including Greek life and 鈥渁 vast dance community.鈥� On busy weekdays, students 鈥渟pend time at the library or other spots on campus and hang out and/or study between classes or other obligations.鈥� At the same time, students highlight strong involvement in professional clubs, noting that 鈥渕any have participation from a variety of鈥� majors.鈥� Other popular spots include the Esports lounge, the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC), 鈥渙utdoors/hiking clubs and social events such as dog therapy,鈥� as well as the campus鈥檚 Aldrich Park, where 鈥渢he landscaping and greenery are very beautiful鈥� and many 鈥渉ave picnics, read, spend time with others, play instruments, or do sports.鈥� The university has a sizable commuter population, and 鈥渢here isn鈥檛 much to do around UC Irvine if you don鈥檛 have a car鈥� so it can be 鈥渞ather quiet on the weekends.鈥� However, others point out that there are 鈥渘ice shuttle options鈥� and 鈥渁 lot of options for beaches to go to,鈥� as well as the University Town Center (UTC), 鈥渁 great place near campus for clubs, organizations, or friends to spend quality time together.鈥� Students 鈥渁ll do various things,鈥� making the most of the vibrant and inclusive campus life that UC Irvine offers.

The UC Irvine Career Center offers a number of resources for students exploring their options for life after graduation. One-onone academic advising and career counseling are available; the school hosts many on-campus recruiting events and career fairs; and the Center's online database, known as Zotlink, lists jobs and internship opportunities and provides abundant information about professional development workshops and other career events happening on campus. It's easy to gain leadership experience through programs like Passport to Leadership, the Leadership Train, or the newly launched Student Leadership Portfolio, which helps students consider how their roles will relate to their futures (and resumes). Students widely report that a UC Irvine education does a great job of preparing them for what's to come.
