University of Idaho is truly a school that invests in its students. Despite its large size, the university manages to create a 鈥減ersonalized learning experience鈥� for all undergrads. Idaho also provides numerous 鈥渘etworking opportunities鈥� for their students. One student explains, 鈥淏eing here at UI, I鈥檝e had the chance to meet many people in industry, which helped me land an internship at NASA JPL this past summer.鈥� Academically, Idaho offers students a wide range of stellar departments. However, undergrads especially like to tout the fantastic 鈥渆ngineering, agriculture, business, and law programs.鈥� Fortunately, no matter what you choose to study, the university is 鈥渋ncredible at creating an environment [in which] to build great relationships between professors and students.鈥� Though it鈥檚 certainly helped by the fact that 鈥渢he faculty here really cares about the students and genuinely wants to see them succeed.鈥� Undergrads appreciate that their professors help them become 鈥渨ell-educated students with the ability to think.鈥� Faculty are also happy to 鈥渉ost study sessions [in preparation] for exams and quizzes, and they are willing to answer all of your questions.鈥� And, best of all, Idaho professors 鈥渁re very interesting and really bring their lectures to life.鈥�

On the surface, the student body at University of Idaho might appear a bit homogenous; 鈥渕ost people are white,鈥� and it often feels like the vast majority hail from 鈥淚daho, Washington, or Oregon.鈥� Nevertheless, the 鈥減opulation is slowly becoming more and more diverse.鈥� This is partially thanks to a 鈥渟urprising number of international students.鈥� In turn, 鈥渢his creates a unique opportunity to learn from people of different cultures.鈥� Undergrads also take great solace in the fact that their peers are 鈥渁ll very, very friendly鈥� and united in their 鈥渒indness.鈥� Simply stroll across campus and you鈥檒l notice that 鈥渆veryone smiles and says hi.鈥� An ecstatic student rushes to add, 鈥淢y peers are the most supportive and uplifting people I鈥檝e ever been surrounded by.... It鈥檚 not uncommon to see students giving directions to lost tours or inviting perfect strangers to something like the farmers market or a film downtown.鈥� A lot of these Idaho Vandals also find common ground in their love of the outdoors, with many students looking to 鈥渢ake advantage of Moscow Mountain nearby for hiking, mountain biking, or snowshoeing.鈥� Finally, when it comes to political leanings, we鈥檙e told that Idaho has an 鈥渦nusually large number of libertarianminded students here.鈥� Thankfully, most undergrads 鈥渁re very respectful, even when they strongly disagree.鈥� As one contemplative student states, 鈥淲e rarely talk about tolerance here, but we act on it daily.鈥�

Undergrads at Idaho happily report that 鈥渢here are always a lot of activities going on around campus.鈥� For starters, the student recreation center is often a big draw where students can 鈥渨ork out, play a variety of indoor sports, take classes, climb the rock wall, or just hang out.鈥� Students also love to explore the 鈥渢wo arboretums on campus.鈥� Idaho also has 鈥渁 very involved Greek system that is always holding a philanthropic event somewhere on campus or in the community.鈥� The university sponsors a number of great cultural affairs including 鈥渁n amazing Jazz Festival, Native American celebrations, African American celebrations, and many many more throughout the year.鈥� In fact, 鈥渙n the weekends there is almost always [an] event to attend that is hosted by an organization at the university, whether it is just for fun or to raise money for a cause.鈥� Finally, students also love taking advantage of everything hometown Moscow has to offer. As one pleased Vandal elaborates, 鈥淭here is usually something going on every night, be it trivia nights at local restaurants, local musicians playing at a coffee shop, or a book signing at Book People.鈥�

Students attending the University of Idaho are pleased with the diversity of degrees and programs offered by the school: 鈥淭his is great if, like me, you aren鈥檛 100% sure of your career goals yet.鈥� It鈥檚 the mission of UI鈥檚 advisors, then, to make sure the students have the tools to figure this out, whether that鈥檚 online interest assessments or descriptions of what you can do with your current major, and extracurricular suggestions for getting employable experience. The school is also described as having 鈥渁 lot of connections to employers,鈥� which explains both the 鈥済reat job placement rates鈥� and 鈥渘etworking opportunities.鈥� Perhaps most importantly, it clarifies why more than half of students end up in jobs that they self-describe as being important to them (the median starting salary of $56,400, according to PayScale.com, doesn鈥檛 hurt).
