Founded in 1865, the University of Kentucky in Lexington offers more than 200 academic programs to its undergraduate students. It is one of only eight institutions in the country with the full set of liberal arts, engineering, professional, agricultural and medical colleges. With a 鈥済reat variety in majors and classes鈥� available, many undergraduates find UK has 鈥渁vailable opportunities for students in all fields of study.鈥� Enrollees find support outside their standard classroom work with 鈥渟o many study abroad options鈥� and the chance to 鈥渂ecome involved in undergraduate research.鈥� Many courses also incorporate 鈥渁ctive technology learning classrooms,鈥� and some degree programs have hybrid classes. From classroom to campus, Kentucky makes sure that 鈥渆verything is there to help the students鈥攁ll of the resources you could need.鈥� Undergrads say the faculty is 鈥減assionate about giving us more than just degrees鈥� and most have 鈥渁 great base of knowledge, enthusiasm, and accessibility.鈥� Students enthusiastically recommend registering for courses with seasoned teachers who have industry experience because they 鈥渁re the best at their job,鈥� and 鈥渁re able to answer questions from personal experience more so than just textbook knowledge.鈥� But regardless of if you鈥檙e learning from a TA or a tenured faculty member, undergrads appreciate the fact that their instructors 鈥渄o their best to make the material interesting and engaging.鈥� Many enrollees also value 鈥渢he availability of professors and their willingness to help鈥� after class and during offices hours. 鈥淭hey are more than professors; they are mentors for me and networking connections for the field,鈥� says a student.

Many students express 鈥渁 love for [their] school鈥� and the 鈥渧ery friendly鈥� community that comes with it. As one undergrad notes, 鈥淏ig Blue Nation makes everyone feel a part of the school pride here at the University of Kentucky.鈥� The culture of being a Kentucky Wildcat unifies enrollees in many aspects of their college career. 鈥淪tudents of every major and discipline find commonality in a variety of things,鈥� including 鈥済reat pride about the state of Kentucky and its values.鈥� And while the student body is diverse with 鈥渁 healthy number of in-state and out-of-state students,鈥� as well as 鈥渕any international students and nontraditional students,鈥� walking around campus, 鈥渢here is a comfortable atmosphere,鈥� which 鈥渉elps each student to learn how to communicate with people from many different backgrounds.鈥� 鈥淭here isn鈥檛 a sense of elitism here,鈥� but 鈥渟tudents still value academia.鈥� In the end, 鈥渁ll of UK鈥檚 students contribute to a very diverse atmosphere that creates its unique environment.鈥� As one student explains, 鈥淚t鈥檚 one big community, and people are so happy to engage in it.鈥�

The University of Kentucky has made great efforts at 鈥渢ransforming itself into a more modern and thriving university city.鈥� 鈥淭here is so much to do鈥� at UK, and the 鈥渃ampus is close to downtown, so people will go out to eat or attend events happening there.鈥� The university is also located in 鈥渉orse country and in a wonderful proximity to good hiking, so a lot of time is spent outdoors.鈥� During the week, you鈥檒l find students 鈥淸sitting] in common areas around campus to hang out and relax before the next class.鈥� After class, they will 鈥渦sually study at the library or go to work鈥� (UK has 鈥渁 lot of opportunities for student employment鈥�), but weekends are a time to let loose. 鈥淪porting events are always popular,鈥� and students are 鈥渇illed to the brim with pride.鈥� Home to a multitude of active Greek chapters, 鈥淪orority/fraternity life is huge,鈥� as 鈥淕reek life is really important on campus.鈥� Beyond the Greek scene, 鈥渢here are a lot of clubs that are very diverse and a lot of intramural sports,鈥� as well as opportunities to volunteer in Lexington and on campus.
