Beneath the Blue Ridge Mountains in Lynchburg, Virginia, the University of Lynchburg students experience an 鈥渁cademic environment [that] is the perfect level of challenge and excitement.鈥� Lynchburg is 鈥渉uge on community service鈥� and opportunities on and around campus make it easy for students to 鈥済et out there and get involved in the local community.鈥� Students enjoy a 鈥渇riendly environment鈥� among peers who are 鈥渨illing to help you out when needed.鈥� Students say that the academic environment is convivial, classes are 鈥渧ery discussion based and allow for conversation.鈥� Students appreciate that 鈥渃lass sizes are so small鈥� and explain that this means 鈥減articipation is necessary鈥� from everyone. A low student-to-faculty ratio also means that it is 鈥渧ery easy to ask questions during class and meet with your professors鈥� outside of class hours. One student in Lynchburg鈥檚 well-regarded nursing program tells us 鈥渨e have incredible faculty members who are caring, compassionate, and experienced. They go above and beyond for us each day to make us the best nurses possible.鈥� Lynchburg boasts 鈥渙ther amazing programs such as Exercise Physiology, Biology, Teaching, [and] Business,鈥� all of which 鈥渁re backed by the liberal arts education that allows us to expand our thinking and look at the world in a broader view.鈥� 鈥淚 have been given nothing but support and encouragement throughout my time in the program,鈥� one student tells us. This nurturing atmosphere helps students become 鈥渢he best version of ourselves.鈥� It isn鈥檛 uncommon to hear students say, 鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 very successful academically in high school but I have done extremely well in college. I would attribute that to the professors鈥� who offer plenty of office hours to get in contact with them, as well as most classes having a class tutor with weekly study sessions to help you along with the class.鈥�

Students at Lynchburg are described as 鈥渇riendly and willing to work together and help each other out.鈥� Students agree that 鈥渢he majority of students are from Virginia or neighboring states鈥� and tend to be 鈥減rimarily Caucasian,鈥� but observe that the university is 鈥渂eginning to have more cultural diversity鈥� and the overall number of international students has increased. Lynchburg students are 鈥渙pen to ideas and accepting to others鈥� while extending their welcoming Southern hospitality. Students will 鈥渉old the door for you and give you a sincere smile as you walk by them on the way to class.鈥� As one student puts it, 鈥淓veryone is very helping. If someone is not able to help you with a homework question or a project, then they will find you someone that can. It does feel like one giant family here.鈥�

There is plenty going on around the University of Lynchburg campus to keep students busy. During the week 鈥渕ost people go to class and then have meetings for clubs,鈥� which are well attended at Lynchburg. 鈥淰ery often, students are involved in at least two campus organizations,鈥� and it is a great way for them to get involved in the community: 鈥淪tudents spend a great deal of their out-of-class time working on planning events, service, and projects for these organizations.鈥� Athletics are popular on campus and 鈥渘early 1 in 5 students is involved in Greek life.鈥� Students say they can 鈥渁lways fill any free time...exploring the city of Lynchburg,鈥� where they can check out 鈥渁 movie, trampoline parks, skating rinks鈥� or catch a bite downtown where 鈥渢he restaurants and bars...are absolutely amazing.鈥� Outside the city, students can explore the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains where there are 鈥渓ots of opportunities for hiking, cave diving, and rafting.鈥�
