Founded in 1839 as the first public university west of the Mississippi River, the University of Missouri is described as 鈥渁 campus full of pride and spirit鈥 featuring 鈥渢op-of-the-line facilities鈥 and 鈥渜uality鈥 academics. Numerous Pulitzer Prize winners have attended MU鈥檚 renowned and 鈥渋ntense鈥 journalism school, and the nursing and animal science programs also receive high praise. Students appreciate that they are given the freedom to explore different academic paths. 鈥淚 came into college undecided and wanted to have plenty of options and opportunities to decide on a major,鈥 says one student. The advising system at MU is 鈥済reat,鈥 and entrepreneurship is actively encouraged. Students have access to coaching and funding opportunities through the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation or the Entrepreneur Quest Student Accelerator. Additionally, they can even launch their own business in the MU Student Center through the Griggs Innovators Nexus. Classes at MU are comprised of 鈥渁 diverse group of students who are eager to learn and a staff that is eager to teach them.鈥 The curriculum is made up of 鈥渃omprehensive courses鈥 that can be difficult, but students say that with hard work, 鈥済ood grades are attainable.鈥 Student success is encouraged by professors who 鈥渁re always available to answer a question,鈥 and 鈥渆ven with large classes鈥they] are very attentive to individuals.鈥 One student shares, 鈥淚鈥檝e always had professors who have had a million ways to explain any given theory, problem, or question.鈥 The administration also provides support, listening to students鈥 concerns and acting: 鈥淲hen we say there is a problem, it gets fixed,鈥 says one student. MU 鈥渋s always striving to achieve better, and not in just one specific category or area, but all around.鈥 There is a strong emphasis on 鈥渓earning while networking,鈥 and with nearly 200,000 alumni just in Missouri alone, MU鈥檚 extensive network helps students with internships and job opportunities. The university reports that thousands of employers recruit Mizzou graduates each year.
