Founded in 1839 as the first public university west of the Mississippi River, the University of Missouri is described as 鈥渁 campus full of pride and spirit鈥� featuring 鈥渢op-of-the-line facilities鈥� and 鈥渜uality鈥� academics. Numerous Pulitzer Prize winners have attended MU鈥檚 renowned and 鈥渋ntense鈥� journalism school, and the nursing and animal science programs also receive high praise. Students appreciate that they are given the freedom to explore different academic paths. 鈥淚 came into college undecided and wanted to have plenty of options and opportunities to decide on a major,鈥� says one student. The advising system at MU is 鈥済reat,鈥� and entrepreneurship is actively encouraged. Students have access to coaching and funding opportunities through the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation or the Entrepreneur Quest Student Accelerator. Additionally, they can even launch their own business in the MU Student Center through the Griggs Innovators Nexus. Classes at MU are comprised of 鈥渁 diverse group of students who are eager to learn and a staff that is eager to teach them.鈥� The curriculum is made up of 鈥渃omprehensive courses鈥� that can be difficult, but students say that with hard work, 鈥済ood grades are attainable.鈥� Student success is encouraged by professors who 鈥渁re always available to answer a question,鈥� and 鈥渆ven with large classes鈥�[they] are very attentive to individuals.鈥� One student shares, 鈥淚鈥檝e always had professors who have had a million ways to explain any given theory, problem, or question.鈥� The administration also provides support, listening to students鈥� concerns and acting: 鈥淲hen we say there is a problem, it gets fixed,鈥� says one student. MU 鈥渋s always striving to achieve better, and not in just one specific category or area, but all around.鈥� There is a strong emphasis on 鈥渓earning while networking,鈥� and with nearly 200,000 alumni just in Missouri alone, MU鈥檚 extensive network helps students with internships and job opportunities. The university reports that thousands of employers recruit Mizzou graduates each year.

Students at MU are described as 鈥渇riendly, outgoing, social, [and] very involved.鈥� Most students find their friends 鈥渂y joining one of our million organizations,鈥� or through academics, as 鈥渃lasses have always felt like big families.鈥� Since everyone is 鈥減retty easygoing and easy to get along with,鈥� this 鈥渙n-the-go鈥� group says that 鈥渇itting in is easy; you just act like yourself!鈥� There鈥檚 every type of background and personality here, and because 鈥渆veryone is different; anyone could fit in and find a group here.鈥� At the end of the day, everyone is 鈥減roud to be [a] Tiger,鈥� with one student adding, 鈥淲e all fit in because we have this in common.鈥� To sum up the student body, Tigers are 鈥減retty great company.鈥�

Mizzou features a 鈥済orgeous campus鈥� that is filled with school spirit, especially during football and basketball games, which are 鈥渉eavily attended.鈥� This incredible school spirit helps bring people together, creating 鈥渁 pretty close community.鈥� There are plenty of opportunities to have a good time here. As one undergrad notes, 鈥淎 lot of students spend their time in class, but every night of the week there is a party to go to.鈥� While some students mention that there is 鈥渁 huge Greek life鈥� at MU, there are also plenty of social opportunities for everyone, noting that many 鈥渟tudents enjoy going to off-campus parties or the bars downtown.鈥� Speaking of downtown, whether walking or biking, Columbia is easily navigable 鈥渂ecause it鈥檚 such a pedestrian-friendly place.鈥� Students also say Columbia is 鈥渢he perfect mixture of small town and big city,鈥� and 鈥渢here are plenty of opportunities to chill out鈥� here. Plus, being located right between Kansas City and St. Louis means you get 鈥渢he best of both worlds.鈥� As one student happily says of life at Mizzou, 鈥淭here is never a dull moment to be had.鈥�
