The University of New Hampshire is about connections, whether that鈥檚 what a 鈥渟tate school offers...to local community鈥� or the way in which it 鈥渕akes use of their outdoors... and gets students involved in hands-on services and experiences.鈥� The students of its 100+ majors (and eleven schools and colleges) get lifelong support from the office of Career and Professional Success, which leaves students feeling that they can 鈥渓earn whatever you want.鈥� It helps that UNH 鈥渋s especially good at providing information and resources. There are millions of flyers all around campus, including in lecture halls and dorms, informing you of what is going on on-campus and where you can go or who you can contact if you need help.鈥� Professors are commended not just for being 鈥渧ery good lecturers鈥� but for the way they are 鈥渉appy to help in their area of expertise and genuinely interested in doing so.鈥� This may involve allowing students to 鈥渟eparate themselves in order to learn when necessary鈥� during class and being 鈥渨illing to spend time individually to explain material and offer learning resources outside of the classroom.鈥� Students also list a variety of teaching methods, including 鈥渟mall groups, large groups, class conversations, personal work, and all other manner of work in class, as well as a flipped classroom.鈥� Now add in 鈥渁 constantly improving curriculum,鈥� 鈥減lenty of internships,鈥� 鈥渁 plethora of research opportunities,鈥� and science labs that 鈥渉ave really taken the material to a whole other level of learning.鈥� As one student notes, 鈥渢here is so much to do which prepares students for life after graduation that it鈥檚 hard to list it all.鈥�

Many students love the school鈥檚 size of 11,000 students, which 鈥渋s big enough to get lost in and small enough to find people who will become forever friends.鈥� People 鈥渢end to be very social鈥� and many 鈥渁re active and value physical activities, part of why the campus is so pristinely kept.鈥� Most students 鈥渁re from New England in New Hampshire and Massachusetts,鈥� and although the school is 鈥渘ot very diverse, we have a lot of programs and are very accepting for our minority communities.鈥� Those who attend UNH are 鈥済enerally driven, with a good sense of community and collaboration among the more difficult classes and majors,鈥� and 鈥渆ach student has a passion or goal that they want to achieve in life,鈥� so the university 鈥渋s a great place to really expand your horizons and become who you鈥檝e always wanted to be.鈥� There is 鈥渓ots of pride in the school and events going on, so a lot of people are excited and energetic,鈥� and a student says that 鈥渨hether it is presenting my research at our undergraduate research conference, or simply talking to somebody in the Dunkin鈥� line in the MUB [student center], the student body at UNH is overall friendly and approachable.鈥�

A student鈥檚 standard routine is to 鈥渁ttend their classes, do work for a few hours, and hang out a lot with each other at night.鈥� Students do mention 鈥渁 very active night life with dorm competitions and socials, countless intramural sports teams, and welcoming parties across the campus,鈥� as well as events like trivia and concerts. They also refer to the campus itself being 鈥渧ery pretty and easy to walk, making it have a more calming environment overall,鈥� and with a great location in Durham that provides 鈥渁 safe rural environment while still being close to the ocean, activities, and cities like Boston.鈥� The winter gets a particular shout out because students can (and do) 鈥済o skiing or even just sledding around campus and there are always great trails to go hiking.鈥� Ultimately, with more than two hundred student clubs and organizations, including 鈥渟tudent-run groups for various backgrounds, lifestyles and viewpoints, from political groups to hobby groups,鈥� students feel confident that there鈥檚 something for everyone.
