The University of New Mexico, located in Albuquerque, is the state鈥檚 flagship university. Many students choose UNM for the quality and variety of its science programs, including Earth and planetary sciences, biology, and the premed and nursing programs. There are all types of students at UNM, and as one undergrad notes, 鈥淵ou meet someone different every day.鈥� The community is very diverse and welcoming; as one student observes, 鈥淣o one will ever feel ethnically alone since there are so many different kinds of people.鈥� Just 鈥渓ike any school, there are cliques鈥�but that does not mean they do not interact with each other,鈥� and most 鈥減eople get along regardless of origin.鈥� Overall, students appreciate that the university is 鈥渟ensitive and very engaged with its diverse population of students.鈥� In fact, most students agree that 鈥渆veryone brings something to the table鈥� at UNM, which makes for a vibrant and interesting environment.

At UNM, many students agree that 鈥渃ollege is more than going to class.鈥� The school embraces this idea by offering 鈥渉undreds of great student organizations.鈥� And with so many groups and clubs to choose from, students are sure to find something 鈥渢hat will fit.鈥� The Student Union Building is the heart of campus life, where 鈥渢here is always something going on.鈥� From weekly movies to 鈥渙pportunities for fun events鈥� and meetings in the workspaces of the Lobo Lair, there鈥檚 plenty to keep you entertained. The Greek community is active on campus and 鈥渕akes up a lot of the senate and other extracurricular activities,鈥� with one student noting that any Greek-sponsored 鈥渁ctivity has fun attached.鈥� Although UNM has a dry-campus policy, students say that 鈥渁 lot of people drink, just like at any college,鈥� and there鈥檚 鈥渆xcellent nightlife鈥� available off campus. Plus, being in the city means students have easy access to great bars, dining, theaters, live music, and eclectic shops along Central Avenue and downtown. Students also say that 鈥渉anging out at the Duck Pond is a great way to pass time between classes in warmer months,鈥� and in colder months, the lure of the mountains draws people off campus, as 鈥渄uring the winter season, there are numerous ski resorts and places to go snowboarding that are not far away.鈥� Athletics are another of the many 鈥渨ays for everyone to get involved,鈥� and many say that 鈥渁ttending games is a must.鈥� With so many activities and events to choose from, it鈥檚 no wonder 鈥渆veryone seems to find their niche.鈥�
