The University of North Carolina, Greensboro, 鈥渋s an amazing place for creatives to come and further themselves personally and professionally.鈥� Students highlight hands-on opportunities such as 鈥渉osting my own musical live shows, performing at the NC Music Educators conference, [and an] internship with a prestigious music non-profit.鈥� Students also say that 鈥渢he arts, 100 percent,鈥� are a major draw at UNCG. To enhance its fine-arts reputation, the university is building a new center for creative practice, featuring 鈥渁 flexible performance space, gallery, instructional and studio rooms, [and] a digital lab鈥� that will be 鈥渁 hive of creativity and academic innovation.鈥� In addition to the arts, the business school is very popular, and one student says, 鈥淭he amount of different classes and majors you can have are definitely a plus. I chose this school specifically for its genetic counseling program; something that鈥檚 pretty unique to the school.鈥� And regardless of one鈥檚 major, students can count on their professors to be 鈥渇riendly, inclusive, welcoming, and diligent about teaching well.鈥� In addition, 鈥渢here鈥檚 always a resource or person who鈥檚 ready to help you鈥攚hether that鈥檚 the Office of Intercultural Engagement, your academic advisor, or even a professor who you connected with and genuinely cares about your growth,鈥� as well as 鈥渁 plethora of opportunities for those who are first-generation or transfer students.鈥� All in all, students love that UNCG 鈥渢ruly encourages students to find their home, their people, and their community.鈥�

When it comes to representation at UNCG, students agree: 鈥淚t鈥檚 not just about seeing diversity; it鈥檚 about experiencing it.鈥� Walking around campus, one notices all the 鈥渦nique hair, makeup, and overall fashion choices.鈥� Moreover, Spartans value that their peers come 鈥渇rom all kinds of cultural backgrounds鈥�.Every day, I鈥檓 surrounded by people who not only look like me but also people who come from completely different experiences and walks of life.鈥� In fact, UNCG takes pride in being a 鈥渕inority serving institution,鈥� featuring a 鈥渓arge population of students of color, women, and LGBTQIA+ students.鈥� Because Spartans particularly welcome 鈥渆veryone鈥檚 perspectives鈥� there鈥檚 also 鈥渁 good amount of progressive political discussion.鈥� And 鈥渢here are a lot of niche groups, so everyone can find somewhere to fit in.鈥� Students also value that the plurality among their peers brings them together: 鈥淲hat makes UNCG special is how welcoming and supportive the community is. Students help each other succeed instead of competing.鈥� One student sums up the vibe on campus best, saying: 鈥淥verall, the student body is creative, caring, and proud to be Spartans. It鈥檚 a place where you can be yourself and still feel part of something bigger.鈥�

UNCG is a campus 鈥渁live with activity,鈥� with students pointing to the Elliott University Center as a place where 鈥渢here鈥檚 always something happening鈥攆rom community service drives where I can write cards to veterans, to learning about new clubs or causes that I can share with my friends.鈥� Other Spartans, as students are known, agree: 鈥淯NCG always has something happening, whether it鈥檚 table talks, guest speakers, or pop-up events,鈥� such as 鈥渇ried chicken Wednesdays,鈥� which became so popular that 鈥渘ow we have a DJ that plays music during that time.鈥� Other spirited events include renaissance fair theme days, silent discos, and intramural sports. 鈥淧laying club basketball lets me stay active, meet new people, and take a break from classes while still doing something I love,鈥� says one Spartan, and that extends to everything from gaming (the Esports Arena) and swimming (the recreation center) to theater (Taylor Theater). Spartans also love to hang on College Avenue, 鈥渨here there鈥檚 often even more going on鈥攆raternities hosting fundraisers, food trucks handing out free samples, or student groups promoting upcoming events.鈥� In short, 鈥渓ife at UNCG is always full of energy and connection.鈥�
