If you love hockey, want to study at the nation鈥檚 foremost aerospace and aviation school, and you鈥檙e not afraid of the cold temperatures, the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks wants you on their team. The largest university in the state, UND is internationally recognized in the aviation industry for its aerospace program, which offers 鈥渢he highest level of flight training,鈥� thanks to 鈥渋ncredible professors鈥� who 鈥渒now the industry.鈥� Other schools including the college of business and public administration, the college of engineering and mines, and the school of medicine and health sciences are praised for their 鈥渋nnovation and intelligence.鈥� UND also benefits from its 鈥渟trong and active alumni network.鈥� Students have mixed experiences with the quality of advisement and experiences with faculty seeming to vary depending on the students鈥� interests. 鈥淕eneral education teachers are very hit or miss,鈥� one student says. But another offers, 鈥淓very single professor that I鈥檝e had has been engaging, [and] interested in my learning...and have also given me opportunities for success by introducing me to internships or jobs that I should apply for, as well as being willing to write recommendation letters or talk during their office hours whenever possible.鈥� UND offers 鈥済reat on-campus resources for its students, including 鈥渃ounseling, student health, LGBTQ+ office, International Center, Student Government, and The Dakota Student, the student newspaper.鈥� Small class sizes 鈥渕ake for a more personalized learning experience,鈥� and 鈥渢uition costs are still reasonable compared to other schools and states,鈥� proving 鈥渂ang for your buck.鈥� And there are 鈥渘umerous resources and organizations available for students on campus to help them succeed...academically, socially, and mentally鈥濃�攊ncluding a 鈥渟trategic plan recently implemented that focuses more on the student experience and being a leader in action.鈥�

The 鈥渃onservative鈥� student body 鈥渋s mostly comprised of Midwestern students,鈥� a 鈥渓arge majority from Minnesota and North Dakota,鈥� with the aviation program bringing in 鈥渁 decent amount of diversity from around the U.S. and the world.鈥� Students also note the quality of their classmates: 鈥淚t takes a special kind of person to be able to suffer through the long, dark, and extremely cold winters.鈥� Those who land on campus are more than 鈥渨illing to lend a helping hand鈥� and that鈥檚 true 鈥渘ot only for the campus but for the community as well.鈥�

Students love the 鈥渢ight-knit community support,鈥� and say 鈥渆veryone in Grand Forks wants the students at UND to succeed.鈥� School spirit 鈥渋s very strong...which makes it extremely fun to attend basketball, football, volleyball, or hockey games.鈥� Emphasis on the hockey games: 鈥淭here is nothing that brings us together more than hockey.鈥� The Ralph Engelstad Arena 鈥渘early sells out at any home game鈥� and 鈥渕any people begin lining up in the cold as early as 8:00 a.m. on some game days.鈥� The city has a lot of outdoor skating rinks. The 鈥済reenway is great in the warmer months.鈥� The 鈥渂eautiful campus鈥� is 鈥渞elatively compact in size,鈥� so traveling to and from classes is easy and 鈥渃onvenient.鈥� There is 鈥渟upport for Greek organizations and other organizations that support leadership opportunities,鈥� and the 鈥渁ttitude of all people, staff, and workers is always uplifting.鈥� Most students鈥� days are 鈥渇illed with studying and homework,鈥� but in between classes students visit the 鈥渓ocal coffee shop, Archives,鈥� or visit the Wellness Center, which 鈥渋s always busy, either with individual workouts, group exercise classes, intramural or pick-up games, or cooking classes.鈥�
