The University of Oregon provides 鈥渁 wide variety of opportunities for students,鈥� a sentiment echoed by many, including one Duck who shares: 鈥淢y school does a great job of allowing students to navigate different academic paths by not pressuring them into declaring a major or minor immediately,鈥� and encouraging them to take 鈥渁 variety of diverse classes and explore different interests.鈥� For example, one Duck enjoys 鈥渂eing a research assistant in labs, working as an editor at multiple student journals, completing an independent thesis project, studying abroad, and conducting experiments in class.鈥� As an R1 research university, 鈥渢here are so many opportunities to get involved in hands-on research.鈥� Pre-health programs, particularly in human physiology, are known for 鈥減ushing the boundary of undergraduate research and sports health,鈥� while the Warsaw Sports Business Center helps cultivate the 鈥渘ext generation of sports business leaders.鈥� Alumni connections also enhance student experiences, as demonstrated by the Ducks Shadow Ducks Program, which lets students 鈥渟hadow alumni in their desired field and make connections at large companies such as Visa, Edelman, Washington Times, and the SF Giants!鈥� With a vibrant academic community and diverse learning experiences, one Duck feels well-prepared to graduate 鈥渨ith projects I can talk about on my r茅sum茅 and examples of my work to show employers.鈥�

鈥淲elcoming, with a sense of family,鈥� is how one Duck describes the vibe on campus, a sentiment shared by many at the university. Given the large size of the student body, students find that 鈥渢here is a crowd for everyone at UO鈥攁thletes, sorority girls, frat bros, skaters, artists, outdoorsy, and more.鈥� One student reports: 鈥淎 lot of people are experimenting with their style, their ideas, and their interests, so it results in a lot of fun sights and experiences.鈥� Another Duck agrees, describing their peers as 鈥渃reative, eclectic, interesting, friendly, driven.鈥� The strong athletic culture at UO contributes to 鈥渁 sense of community and a collective identity of being Ducks,鈥� while students also rally around 鈥渢he outdoors and environmental activism.鈥� One student adds, 鈥淭he campus is very politically active and left-leaning.鈥� Another proudly adds, 鈥淚f there is something [Ducks] see wrong with the world, institution, etc., they will do something to try and change it.鈥� For many, the highlight of their UO experience is captured in this sentiment: 鈥淢y favorite part of being at UO is the people I have met and the community I鈥檝e built.鈥�

鈥淣othing beats walking to Autzen Stadium for a football game,鈥� says one Duck, a feeling shared by many students at UO. As an unabashedly 鈥渟ports-centric鈥� school, Ducks take pride in 鈥渂eing a part of a Big 10 school,鈥� offering students the chance to experience top-tier college athletes in a variety of sports. Many students enjoy 鈥渨orking out at the student recreation center鈥� or playing intramural flag football, basketball, and volleyball, while others combine fitness with outdoor adventure, as 鈥渋t is easy to find clubs dedicated to hiking, running, camping, and more.鈥� Beyond athletics, the university thrives on its vibrant social scene: 鈥淭here are so many lively clubs and organizations that are welcoming to everyone鈥�.It doesn鈥檛 feel like a big university when you can make small communities inside of it.鈥� One of those communities is Greek life, which, as one student says, 鈥渉as been a big part of my life and has truly given me my best friends.鈥� Ducks enjoy Oregon鈥檚 natural beauty, and 鈥渋f the weather is nice, students will be outside studying, lying in hammocks, and playing spike ball.鈥� For those over 21, 鈥渢he three bars near campus are packed and very fun.鈥� One Duck sums up campus life at UO best: 鈥淭he campus is beautiful, the football team is great, and the student body is lively.鈥�
