There are 鈥渁 lot of students determined for success鈥� at the Pittsburgh campus of the University of Pittsburgh, where the rigorous academics and urban opportunities allow them 鈥渢o discover themselves and how they can impact the future of the world.鈥� The university 鈥渙ffers so many resources to help achieve the greatest understanding of material,鈥� and 鈥渢here are a lot of opportunities to get out and learn in the field.鈥� Undergrads also have access to 鈥渧ery good research opportunities,鈥� and 鈥渟tudy abroad is accessible in a variety of forms, with numerous full-semester programs, summer programs, and short-term experiences led by faculty members.鈥� Many students report that the 鈥渁cademics are very strong here,鈥� especially the STEM programs. Professors are 鈥渘ot only knowledgeable but also fairly accessible outside of lecture halls,鈥� and 鈥渕ost are skilled at conveying that knowledge in a digestible way.鈥� Many professors 鈥減rovide supplemental information and resources to enhance the classwork and encourage students to do independent exploration of the class subject matter outside of the class materials.鈥� The combination of 鈥渁mazing professors, so many academic resources, incredible health and wellness programs, and one-on-one support in every area鈥� leads one student to say, 鈥淭his is a universally loved school, and you can tell many students enjoy being here.鈥�

Pitt is home to 鈥渁 very diverse group of students鈥攅thnically, racially, socio-economically, religiously and academically,鈥� and most students are academically driven, 鈥渟upportive, and have a lot of pride in their school.鈥� Students also mention that many come here with 鈥渁 distinct goal in mind in terms of their careers and personal development.鈥� Overall, the university 鈥渄oes a very good job of having a wide range of programs, which helps attract that wide range of students鈥� with diverse 鈥渋nterests, focuses, and subcultures.鈥� As one student puts it, 鈥淚t feels like an equal mix of different personalities. You have artsy kids, STEM kids, athletics, Greek life, and just a ton of other 鈥榯roupes,鈥� which I think overall add so much character to the school and student body.鈥� Some students find their peers warm and friendly, while others feel it can take some effort to connect, though one student explains, 鈥淚 just think you have to take it upon yourself to make the first move to make friends here.鈥� All in all, one student notes that Pitt 鈥渆stablishes a healthy connection for students between academic work, cultural awareness of Pittsburgh itself, and extracurriculars that I feel builds a cohesive student body.鈥�

Pitt is a 鈥渃ombination of city campus and neighborhood, blending urban hustle and the chaotic fun of a college town.鈥� The city is full of opportunities for exploration, and people enjoy 鈥渢rying new restaurants and cafes, going to Schenley Park, [and] events downtown.鈥� While a variety of dorms and campus-owned apartment buildings are available, 鈥渓ots of people live off campus and host events,鈥� but it鈥檚 still 鈥渆asy to get around efficiently,鈥� thanks to free public transportation for Pitt students. There are 鈥渁lways a lot of activities and events going on throughout the week,鈥� and with more than 700 student organizations, there 鈥渁re groups here for basically any interest or personality type, and it makes it easy to find friends.鈥� Weekdays are typically spent studying, and many students 鈥渄o work in public spaces or at the library,鈥� and 鈥渁lso have on-campus or off-campus jobs to help pay their way through college.鈥� Sporting events are popular, and 鈥渆veryone always puts their best into all of the games here.鈥� Reflecting on their experience, one student says, 鈥淕etting to attend a public university with strong academic and sports culture in the heart of an amazing city is such a wonderful opportunity.鈥�

The school values intellectual curiosity and hands-on learning, and the Career Center guarantees an experiential learning opportunity to anyone who participates in their Internship Prep Program, which is a series of appointments and workshops that cover r茅sum茅s, LinkedIn profile reviews, mock interviews, and search support. Pitt is a major public research university, and students can assist in research opportunities even in their first year, and it 鈥渉as an outstanding relationship with employers both [locally] and throughout the country.鈥� The school鈥檚 鈥渃onnections and partnerships are extremely helpful when applying for jobs in the Pittsburgh area.鈥� Additionally, the Cooperative Education Program provides on-the-job learning for students enrolled in engineering, chemistry, information science, and computer science programs.
