Featuring a 鈥渂eautiful campus鈥� and 鈥渆xcellent academics,鈥� the University of Puget Sound is a great option for anyone hoping to study in the Pacific Northwest. The school provides students with 鈥渁n amazing support system鈥� and truly strives to 鈥渉elp them [meet] their goal[s] in whatever capacity necessary.鈥� Academically, undergrads here are especially quick to highlight Puget Sound鈥檚 鈥済reat arts programs, whether [in] English, music, or theater.鈥� They also applaud the fact that there are ample 鈥減roject-based learning opportunities such as relevant work study [and] summer research for all majors and interests.鈥� Additionally, students benefit from small class sizes, which lead to plenty of 鈥渙pen discussion and interactive engagement with the course material.鈥� This also allows undergrads to develop 鈥渃lose student-professor relationships.鈥� And speaking of professors, they work hard to ensure their classes are 鈥渃hallenging鈥� yet 鈥渁ccessible.鈥� Importantly, 鈥渢hey have open office hours that all students are encouraged to attend, and there is no shame in [doing so].鈥� As one grateful student sums up, 鈥淧rofessors are genuinely excited to make time for students in their schedule for advice, homework help, or even just sharing a coffee. The level of concern of the professors for undergraduate education is almost unmatched.鈥�

At first glance, the University of Puget Sound鈥檚 student body appears 鈥渇airly homogenous.鈥� After all, most undergrads come from 鈥渨hite middle-class families along the West Coast.鈥� However, the school is making strides to become 鈥渕ore diverse,鈥� especially 鈥渋n terms of gender expression and sexuality.鈥� What鈥檚 more, Puget Sound students are 鈥渘ot afraid to voice their [opinions or] their views [on] everything from political to social issues.鈥� In turn, students also caution that 鈥渕ore conservative views can [either] fall on deaf ears [or] can be met with a strong argument.鈥� However, others quickly assert that no matter your background or leanings, Puget Sound students are 鈥渙pen and welcoming to all.鈥� As one undergrad shares, 鈥淸Students are] not just nice in passing, but they have depth and consideration; when you run into someone in a Caf茅 and [make] small talk, it doesn鈥檛 feel surface level.鈥� This makes for a 鈥済eneral vibe...[that is] laid back.鈥� Students also tend to describe their classmates as 鈥渦nique,鈥� 鈥渁dventurous,鈥� and 鈥減assionate鈥� people who maintain a strong 鈥渄esire for new experiences.鈥� Of course, if you鈥檙e looking to easily pinpoint these undergrads, you鈥檇 simply say that the 鈥渢ypical [Puget Sound] student loves the outdoors, is a critical thinker, and knows what makes a good raincoat.鈥�

It鈥檚 no secret that undergrads at Puget Sound are 鈥渧ery dedicated to their studies.鈥� In fact, 鈥渕ost students have a fun time studying in [the] three different Caf茅s on campus.鈥� Of course, even these dedicated scholars need to kick back, so they frequently attend the various 鈥減erformances, talks, or events going on almost every week.鈥� Additionally, many students flock to 鈥渢he athletic center to get in a workout, attend a dance class, or rock climb.鈥� A good number also participate in 鈥渁t least one club or are [involved] in Greek life.鈥� Puget Sound undergrads report that 鈥渙n any given Friday night you can find a party鈥� to attend. No need to worry if that鈥檚 not your scene. Students here are an 鈥渙utdoorsy鈥� lot, and when the weekend rolls around, many of them can be found 鈥渉iking, skiing, kayaking鈥� or 鈥淸taking] camping trips to the Olympic Peninsula or out to Eastern Washington.鈥� People are also just as happy to stay local and explore all that the surrounding area has to offer including 鈥渢he Bridge of Glass, Point Defiance park, and the Puget Sound waterfront.鈥�

The main goal of UNL鈥檚 Career Service Center is to facilitate connections between students and the professional world, with undergrads noting the abundance of 鈥渙pportunities for internships and other pre-employment experiences." Activities are described as "really helpful with job placement," and include things like targeted career fairs that bring in local businesses to talk to students. Students also have the chance to 鈥済o out and explore in the real world [by] job shadowing professionals.鈥� The Career Service Center鈥檚 services are anything but one-size-fits-all 鈥斅燯NL has multiple affinity programs that specialize in advocating for and supporting women, students of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, students with disabilities, and more during their career prep. For undergrads who want even more face time with the experts, the university offers drop-in career advising online and in-person every Monday through Friday.
