It pays to go to Richmond University鈥攍iterally. Students speak highly of the way the school combines academic and real-world opportunities, whether that鈥檚 鈥済rant money to do summer internships鈥� to getting paid 鈥渢o do research...on a topic of my choice.鈥� These are great ways to explore career options, say students, like a sophomore program that pays 鈥渇or you to go to a hotel over the weekend to learn business networking skills.鈥� Another student mentions the school covering travel to New Orleans for a week 鈥渁s part of my class to learn about environmental racism,鈥� and one fondly cites their 鈥渋nternational work experience, fully funded by the university.鈥� Locally, there are opportunities to 鈥渨ork with Richmond-based companies to implement skills and theories we have learned in class. For example, in Principles of Marketing, we worked with Capital One.鈥� Students also praise 鈥渁 class called Benchmark where you create a product and start an actual business and have to have talks with suppliers, marketing teams, and try to truly manage a startup.鈥� Across academic programs, Students agree that professors comprise one of the school鈥檚 greatest assets. As one student explains: 鈥淚 love my professors and have developed close relationships with many of them. They genuinely care about me, my interests, and my career path. My professors have given me a wonderful academic experience.鈥� Between the top-notch professors and the travel and research opportunities, 鈥渢he resources Richmond has are unparalleled.鈥�

Students at the University of Richmond are hard-working, athletic, friendly, engaged, and have many interests that connect us to many people and places on campus. Furthermore, Richmond students aren鈥檛 鈥渁fraid to try something out or take risks to pursue what they love.鈥� One student explains: 鈥淵ou can find people here interested in every field and many have already made significant strides in their careers like starting businesses, filming documentaries, or producing music.鈥� Another student reports that their classmates are 鈥渕otivated leaders,鈥� who are 鈥渟ocially aware,鈥� 鈥渇uture focused, and career oriented.鈥� By and large, students are 鈥渧ery diligent and hardworking individuals, who take their classes and extracurriculars seriously.鈥� They are also thoughtful, with one student elaborating, 鈥淭he discussions in my classes, sometimes on pretty contentious topics, are generally well thought out and informed.鈥� One Richmond student summarizes their peers as 鈥渟ocial, outgoing, and adventurous,鈥� with most 鈥渨illing to help others in and outside of class, and although students like to...have fun, we also are devoted to our studies and enjoy learning at Richmond.鈥�

Students agree that the Richmond 鈥渃ampus is gorgeous,鈥� with Gothic brick architecture and 鈥渦nbeatable facilities鈥� that are kept in 鈥渢ip-top shape,鈥� and students accordingly find it to be 鈥渁 blessing鈥� that they have 鈥渉ousing available on campus all four years.鈥� Recreationally, students often enjoy grabbing 鈥渇ood or coffee with friends and walking around the lake鈥� and have 鈥渄inner together at the dining hall, which is really good and family style.鈥� Students bond over 鈥渂ig events, such as concerts, basketball games, and the spring dance鈥� as well as club sports, which are 鈥渆xtremely well-funded.鈥� Student athletes 鈥渉ave access to great facilities...the smaller student population makes these teams more attainable to get a spot on.鈥� Outside of sports, Greek life plays a strong role in the school鈥檚 social scene, whether social or professional chapters. One student describes being 鈥渋n a business fraternity and social sorority. I like these extracurriculars because they give me something to do on a small campus...joining has enriched my college experience, especially as an introvert.鈥� That said, students note that you are free to partake without joining, and that they are perfectly happy 鈥渢o go downtown to bars or to eat at many of the great restaurants.鈥�

Students at the University of Richmond triumphantly declare that the school鈥檚 Career Services office is 鈥渋ncredibly helpful and thorough.鈥� It鈥檚 鈥渃onstantly reaching out to students鈥� and manages to 鈥渇oster great relationships鈥� with several companies. Undergrads flock there to explore various majors and careers (the Career Advisors are even certified in analyzing the Myers-Brigg Type Indicator assessment) and to take advantage of fantastic programs like Spider Shadowing, which provides individuals with the opportunity to spend time with an alum or employer to learn more about a particular career. As if that wasn鈥檛 enough, students can turn to the office for r茅sum茅 reviews and interview prep. Industry-specific preparedness programs like Q-camp, A&S NEXT, and the Jepson EDGE Institute ensure undergrads are able to translate their skills when it鈥檚 time to job hunt.
